  • Patent number: 8708961
Abstract: An infusion device having a housing with a reusable control portion and an expendable reservoir portion includes a precise drive for an infusion pump. The drive includes a piezoelectric bender assembly, a limiter and at least one contact stop. The piezoelectric bender assembly includes a cantilevered piezoelectric bender having an member of predetermined thickness fixed to move with the second end. A limiter of dimensionally stable material including a gap and at least a first mounting hole extending to the gap. The member of predetermined thickness extends into the gap. A first contact stop is positioned in the gap to define a critical gap distance limiting movement of the member of predetermined thickness in the gap. A base has a mounting surface, a port through the base and extending to the mounting surface. The port includes a first length having a smaller diameter at the mounting surface and a second length displaced from the mounting surface and having a larger diameter.

  • Patent number: 7494479
Abstract: A hypodermic syringe employing a plunger slidably disposed within a barrel. The plunger has a mounting hole extending through the seal end thereof to receive a mandrel. The mandrel has a flexible flange to be releasably engaged with the plunger. A spring element withdraws the mandrel into a cavity within the plunger upon full extension of the plunger within the barrel. The barrel includes a hub retainer at the forward end thereof and a needle hub retained therein the mandrel includes barbed tines with surfaces having axes of the conical surfaces that are displaced from one another such that movement of the tines toward one another also brings the axes closer. A catch associated with the back end of the spring element coupled with the mandrel at the other end cooperates with shoulders on smooth surfaces within the cavities to retain tension within the bungee.

  • Patent number: 7276077
Abstract: A device to provide body fluid flow control in the form of a valve to be located within a duct or passageway. The device is controlled through pressure above a preselected threshold. Bulk resilience about a passageway in a valve body provides the mechanism for controlled flow. One-way valve operation may be provided through a flap or through a pressure differential on the valve body depending upon the direction of flow. A frame structure positioned within a resilient seal includes longitudinally elongated elements which may be of spring material, malleable material or heat recoverable material so as to accomplish an initial insertion state and an expanded anchoring state. A valve support transitions between the resilient seal portion and the valve body to insure that the states do not change the threshold opening pressure. Insertion devices may be employed to position and actuate a change of state of the frame in the body duct or passageway.

  • Patent number: 7207974
Abstract: An insertion device for inserting at least a portion of at least one piercing member of an insertion set through the skin of a patient, including: a device housing and a carrier body for movement between an advanced position and a retracted position. The carrier body includes a receiving structure to support the insertion set in a position with the at least one piercing member oriented for insertion through the skin of the patient at a predetermined angle relative to the skin of the patient. A driver urges the carrier body with a controlled force and speed to place at least a portion of the at least one piercing member of the insertion set through the skin of the patient to install the insertion set to the patient. The receiving structure is removable from the insertion set while maintaining installation of the insertion set to the patient.

  • Patent number: 7128730
Abstract: A system for delivery of therapeutic and/or diagnostic agents into a living body includes a port assembly having a cannula extending from the mounting side, a port opening away from the mounting side and a resilient barrier between the port and the cannula. An access hub includes a connector positionable at the port for opening the resilient barrier. The access hub is movable in the port assembly, is engaged therewith through a resilient ring coupling and forms a seal with the resilient barrier, reducing the amount of volume to be primed. Inserters, both disposable and reusable, include the cannula insertion member as part of the assembly. A spring loaded port driver is operatively mounted within the housing with movement controlled by a latch. The driver includes a seat for receipt of a port assembly. The cannula insertion member is nonremovably fixed in a socket in the port driver in the disposable assembly.
