Patent number: 11828223Abstract: A bleed system including control circuitry and a variable jet pump. The control circuitry is configured to receive a signal indicative of a fluid parameter in the bleed system and cause the jet pump to alter a mixing ratio of a higher pressure gas and a lower pressure gas based on the signal. The jet pump is configured to combine the lower pressure gas and the higher pressure gas in the mixing ratio to generate a mixed gas. The jet pump is configured to supply the mixed gas to one or more gas loads in the bleed system. In examples, the control circuitry is configured to establish a system setpoint for the fluid parameter based on an operating status of the one or more gas loads.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 2021Date of Patent: November 28, 2023Assignee: Honeywell International Inc.Inventors: Ara Briley, Gary Kumagai, Micah S. Abel

Patent number: 10539038Abstract: A fan air valve for use in high pressure airflow applications is provided. The described fan air valve embodiments employ a plate with a standoff of a height based on aerodynamic torque. The height of the standoff informs a size of an angle at which the plate is positioned within a respective flow body. The described embodiments result in a fan air valve having a closed flow area that is not much larger than the closed flow area of a valve having a perpendicular plate. The described embodiments avert compression of perimeter ice on a downstream edge of the plate during modulation without requiring software adjustments to address perimeter ice.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 2017Date of Patent: January 21, 2020Assignee: HONEYWELL INTERNATIONAL INC.Inventors: Adriel Reavis, Aaron M. Bensel, Ara Briley, Jeffrey Smith

Patent number: 9897214Abstract: A butterfly valve plate has a base that includes an outlet facing surface, an inlet facing surface that is opposed to the outlet facing surface, and an axis of rotation about which the plate rotates. The inlet facing surface has an asymmetric sinusoidal configuration between a first end and a second end of the inlet facing surface. A sinusoidal length defines a distance between the first and second ends. The axis of rotation is disposed off a midpoint of the sinusoidal length. In addition, or alternatively, the axis of rotation is disposed off a centerline between the inlet facing surface and outlet facing surface.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2015Date of Patent: February 20, 2018Assignee: HONEYWELL INTERNATIONAL INC.Inventors: Aaron Bensel, Ara Briley, Jeffrey Smith

Patent number: 8517333Abstract: A valve actuator includes an actuator housing, a piston, a linkage assembly, a magnet, and a Hall sensor. The actuator housing is adapted to receive pressurized fluid. The piston is movably mounted within actuator housing, and is configured to translate in a first direction and a second direction. The linkage assembly is rotationally coupled to the piston and is adapted to couple to a valve element. The linkage assembly is configured to rotate the valve element in a first rotational direction and a second rotational direction in response to piston movement in the first direction and the second direction, respectively. The magnet is mounted on the piston and is movable therewith, and the Hall sensor is mounted on the actuator housing and is responsive to movement of the magnet to supply a position signal.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 2010Date of Patent: August 27, 2013Assignee: Honeywell International Inc.Inventors: Ara Briley, Craig Kolb, Ed Kesner, Joel LaBenz, David Pantier, Dave Tornquist, Maureen Sugai

Patent number: 8317158Abstract: Flapper valve assemblies are provided. One flapper valve assembly includes a flowbody, a flapper valve element, and an elongated stiffening rib formed in the flowbody. The flowbody includes a generally flat plate portion, and an arcuate portion adjacent the generally flat plate portion. The flapper valve element is hingedly coupled to the flowbody proximate the generally flat plate portion. The elongated stiffening rib extends from the generally flat plate portion to the arcuate portion to distribute mechanical stress and to reduce deflection of the flowbody during pressure loading.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2009Date of Patent: November 27, 2012Assignee: Honeywell International Inc.Inventors: Steve Patterson, Joel LaBenz, Ara Briley, Rene Villalba, Scott Martin
