  • Patent number: 11595806
Abstract: A technique of determining a location of a small cell access point in a wireless communication network is discussed herein. The small cell access point communicates with a nearby mobile device using an unlicensed radio frequency (RF) band radio, of the small cell access point. The small cell access point receives, from the mobile device over the unlicensed RF band, location information related to a location of the mobile device. The small cell access point provides the location information to a gateway within the wireless communication network. Based at least in part on the location information, the gateway may register the small cell access point for service within the wireless communication network and a licensed RF band radio of the small cell access point is activated.

  • Patent number: 10608755
Abstract: System and method are described for reducing the amount and the duration of radio frequency interference that a wireless communication system operating in an unlicensed frequency band receives from nearby devices, by ensuring that neighboring wireless systems are aware of the existence of any wireless system implementing the present disclosure, as well as the frequency bands that are occupied by said wireless system. This is accomplished by placing processor equipped radio transceivers (denominated secondary transceivers) in the periphery of the primary geographic region covered by the wireless communication system incorporating this disclosure, directing the radio signals of said secondary transceivers towards region or regions surrounding said primary geographic coverage region, and using the processors to coordinate the transmission of signals from said secondary transceivers.

  • Patent number: 9131408
Abstract: A system and method capable of scaling or gradually scaling bandwidth of a network flow over a period of time based on network usage are disclosed. In one embodiment, a process or network system obtains a network usage subscription after detecting a network flow. After retrieving a usage subscription and record in accordance with the network flow, the amount of data transferred since the beginning of a predefined time period is identified. Upon identifying the available data transfer quota, the process is able to gradually scale the bandwidth of the flow based on the available data transfer quota.

  • Patent number: 7072296
Abstract: Wireless network demands continually increase as wireless service providers pursue additional service capabilities. In a cellular communication system, leased lines between remote cell sites and the corresponding Mobile Switching Offices (MSOs) remain a major operating cost. Bandwidth reduction by identification and elimination of payload data and control information which need not be fully replicated because it can be deduced from information accessible or previously transmitted allows fewer lines to support the same bandwidth. A wireless access gateway is operable to aggregate such redundant and regenerable data on a backhaul link between a wireless cell site and the corresponding mobile switching office (MSO) to provide low-latency, type specific lossless bandwidth reduction. The wireless access gateway identifies regenerable information and eliminates portions of the data which the device need not transmit because the data is redundant, or accessible or recreatable, at the receiving side.

  • Patent number: 7023819
Abstract: A method is proposed for reducing the number of vocoders in a wireless network. In certain wireless networks mechanisms exist for bypassing the encoding and decoding of voice traffic at the base station, when both ends of the call are mobile subscribers. This is known as tandem-free operation. A method is proposed where other elements of the network instruct the base station to bypass the vocoding, even when the other end of the link is not a wireless subscriber. These elements could include a packet-switched network used for backhaul, or a terminating node such as a voicemail platform. The network element instructing the base station to bypass its vocoders will then be responsible for transcoding of the voice data. This eliminates the need for extra stages of vocoding.
