  • Patent number: 4753676
Abstract: Iron is desulfurized with a compacted article composed of calcium carbide and a gas-generating solid whereby the article is disintegrated during desulfurization resulting in a substantial total consumption of the carbide and a resultant decrease of residual carbide in the slag produced.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 21, 1987
Date of Patent: June 28, 1988
    Assignee: American Cyanamid Company
Inventors: William K. Kodatsky, Anton Mueller, Ararat Hacetoglu, Bruce J. Barker
  • Patent number: 4645130
Abstract: In the manufacture of a carbide-based desulfurizing reagent wherein large agglomerations of material are milled into fine particles, an organic, polar liquid is added to said reagent before or during said milling.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 9, 1985
Date of Patent: February 24, 1987
    Assignee: American Cyanamid Company
Inventors: Ararat Hacetoglu, William K. Kodatsky, Ray O. Gonzales, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4528031
Abstract: There is disclosed a novel method for enhancing the flow of particulate material, particularly carbide-based desulfurizing agents (DSR's) used for the removal of sulfur from hot metal. A novel composition is also taught in which the DSR is in admixture with an organic, polar liquid flow promoter. The novel composition has improved flow characteristics or flowability and reduces the possibility of clogging in conduits and lances.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 15, 1984
Date of Patent: July 9, 1985
    Assignee: Cyanamid Canada, Inc.
Inventors: Ararat Hacetoglu, William K. Kodatsky
