  • Patent number: 4626111
Abstract: A device for automatically adjusting the clearances in a roller bearing due to thermal expansion, constituting a tapered roller bearing having a dual track oppositely tapered inner race and a pair of single track tapered outer races, each outer race being in communication with a pair of coaxial, hydraulically loaded annular pistons, each of which translates in annular piston cylinders, supplied with hydraulic fluid. The hydraulic pressure of the fluid is maintained through an accumulator at a preselectable constant pressure to permit the outer races to translate axially, against the annular piston, as the inner race expands radially due to thermal expansion. Upon thermal contraction, the pressure forces the annular pistons axially toward the outer races, which, due to the taper of the races and the bearing elements, reduces the clearance created due to the thermal contraction.

  • Patent number: 4571096
Abstract: A bearing assembly for roll journals comprising a bearing box having one piece of a semi-cylindrical sleeve and fixed relative to a nip line of a roll. A bearing box having the other piece of the bearing sleeve is movable toward a roll journal resting on the first piece to provide a minimum clearance between the roll journal and the bearing sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4506727
Abstract: A method for converting and a converted cored roll having temperature control means including a central tube isolating the roll core, passages extending lengthwise of the roll in a circular pattern in the annular area between the core and the roll working surface, caps connecting certain passages to form tortions paths, pipes leading from the ends of the paths to the tube and baffle means separating the tube into inlet and outlet areas for circulating temperature control fluid.

  • Patent number: 4331040
Abstract: A gear system adapted to eliminate backlash between a set of reversible gears. The gears are also arranged to perform without backlash when their center distances are changed. One gear of the double helical type fixed to a first shaft is in engagement with a single adjustably secured first helical gear on a second shaft. A biased helical gear is slidably arranged on the second shaft adjacent the first helical gear, forcing the teeth of the biased gear against corresponding teeth of the double helical gear, automatically removing any clearance between them thus eliminating any backlash therewith, which is desirable for gears driving matched rolls.

  • Patent number: 4184824
Abstract: A machine for the continuous manufacture of a multilayer toxicogenic web material, such as asbestos. The machine includes a series of controlled feed units sequentially arranged above a continuous conveyor belt to serially deposit incremental layers of asbestos and oil products on the conveyor belt to form a thick, continuous sheet which is removed after proper curing, from the downstream end of the conveyor belt by a doctor blade. The machine is housed in an environmentally safe containment enclosure to prevent escape of potentially harmful material therefrom.
