  • Publication number: 20230386343
Abstract: A method of operating a platoon of vehicles may include determining a joint optimization of operating parameters of a forward vehicle of the platoon and a rearward vehicle of the platoon. The operating parameters of the forward vehicle may include vehicle motion plan parameters for the forward vehicle. The operating parameters of the rearward vehicle may include suggested control actions for the second vehicle. The method may include wirelessly transmitting from the forward vehicle the vehicle motion plan parameters for the forward vehicle and the suggested control actions for the rearward vehicle, wirelessly receiving at the forward vehicle following vehicle capability parameters indicating capability of the following vehicle, determining in response to the following vehicle capability parameters an updated joint optimization including updated vehicle motion plan parameters for the forward vehicle, and controlling motion of the forward vehicle in response to the updated vehicle motion plan parameters.

  • Patent number: 9697729
Abstract: Traffic signal information is estimated based on positioning system data obtained from a plurality of vehicles. Each data set includes the position and the velocity of a vehicle as functions of time. For an intersection having a traffic signal, an average acceleration of the vehicles when leaving the intersection is estimated, and an average deceleration of the vehicles when approaching the intersection is estimated. For each of a subset of the vehicles, a stop duration at the intersection is estimated based on the average acceleration, the average deceleration, and the positioning system data for the respective vehicle. A duration of a red phase of the traffic signal is estimated based on the stop duration of each of the subset of the vehicles.

  • Patent number: 8972145
Abstract: Systems and methods for predicting traffic signal information are provided. An exemplary method includes obtaining data from a plurality of types of sources and analyzing the data to predict states of a plurality of traffic signals. The data include crowdsourced data. The predictive traffic signal information may be used to adjust an operation of an on-board system of a vehicle.

  • Patent number: 8478500
Abstract: A system and method for utilizing traffic signal information to reduce wait time at traffic signals and to reduce fuel use is disclosed. Traffic signal timing data can be received from traffic signals or from a central server to determine a reference velocity for a vehicle to travel through a plurality of traffic signals. The reference velocity can then be provided to the driver so that the driver can manually control the vehicle at a velocity close to the reference velocity. The techniques of the present disclosure also can be used in connection with a cruise control system to control the velocity of a vehicle to be close to the reference velocity.
