Abstract: A method of sealing a surface and structure of a refractory crucible with a ceramic, comprising the steps of: (a) heating a refractory crucible to a predetermined temperature; (b) applying a wetting agent to a surface of the crucible; (c) applying a ceramic slip along the inner surface of the crucible; (d) applying a vacuum to an outer surface of the crucible; (e) removing excess slip from the inner surface of the crucible; (f) heating the crucible to remove moisture therefrom; and (g) firing the crucible at a temperature between 1,300° C. and about 1,700° C.

Abstract: A method of forming a ceramic fiber comprising the steps of forming a slip comprised of water, ceramic powder, and a binding agent; forming a generally continuous stream of the slip; introducing the stream of the slip into a chemical solution at a concentration wherein the binding agent causes the ceramic slip to form a gelled fiber; removing the gelled fiber from the chemical solution; drying the gelled fiber to remove moisture therefrom; and firing the fiber to produce a ceramic.

Abstract: A process for comminuting a commercial and/or municipal waste material, having an anti-agglomeration or partitioning agent thereon, by subjecting the material to a compressive shear force. The process can be applied successively until a desired particle size distribution is achieved. This process reduces tendency of solids as being milled to agglomerate together to form larger particles and eventually sheets by charging said solids to the mill with sufficient partitioning agent present to suppress agglomeration to increase the efficiency of the process.

Abstract: A continuous dry grinder for grinding particulate material with the assistance of grinding elements includes a comminuting vessel which contains the grinding elements and receives material to be ground through an upper feed chute and discharges the ground material through a radially mounted screen, valve and discharge chute. A motor driven agitator assembly is disposed within the vessel and includes alternating radially projected agitating arms and diverter discs mounted on a rotating agitator shaft. The agitating arms are L-shaped and have their short legs alternately projecting toward the top and bottom of the vessel.
