  • Patent number: 8857992
Abstract: A method and an apparatus are presented for determining ocular motor function in a patient. The patient is instructed to wear a pair of test glasses comprising a first lens having a first color and a second lens having a second color, where the first color and the second color differ. (N) light-emitting devices disposed in a screen are then activated in seriatim, where the (N) light-emitting devices can emit a light comprising the first color and where (N) is greater than 1. (N) images of the screen are synchronously captured upon receiving a signal from the patient indicating an activated light-emitting device is illuminated by a light comprising the second color. Finally, the (N) images are transformed into an ocular motor functioning map.

  • Patent number: 8810105
Abstract: An apparatus for reducing energy consumption in monitoring means of a plurality of piezoelectric components comprises a plurality of piezoelectric components as well as monitoring means for monitoring the status of the piezoelectric components. The monitoring means have two states namely active and inactive. The piezoelectric components are connected in parallel to each other. A current detecting circuit comprises a switch and a resistor that is connected in parallel to the switch. A controller having two states that are active and inactive. The controller is configured to open the switch in response to the controller being in the inactive state and to close the switch in response to the controller being in the active state. The closing of the switch triggers a state change in the monitoring means from their inactive state to their active state.

  • Publication number: 20130321774
Abstract: A device for determining the dominant eye of a person. The device comprises a cone having a small hole at its apex which serves as a view port. The cone is attached to a handle, which contains a battery-powered, low-level laser light source that emits light through a light port in the handle. The cone and handle are designed to be made from a single sheet of material. To determine a person's dominant eye, the person holds the device at arm's length by the handle. The laser is turned on and the person aims the light at a distant wall. The person looks through the base of the cone through the view port with both eyes open, and locates the laser spot on the distant wall through the view port. The person then closes his right eye. If the laser spot disappears from view, the person is right-eye dominant.

  • Patent number: 8592744
Abstract: A light sensor is used to detect ambient light conditions. According to an example embodiment, a light sensor (112) detects color temperature and, in some instances, intensity characteristics of ambient light (120, 130, 140) in an environment and uses these detected characteristics (116) to determine the location of the sensor relative to natural and artificial light sources. This location determination is used to selectively operate circuits in a device such as a hand-held telephone, computer device or personal data assistant (PDA).

  • Patent number: 8581891
Abstract: A light sensor arrangement is used to detect ambient light conditions. According to an example embodiment, a light detector arrangement (e.g., 110) generates an output in response to light incident thereupon. An averaging-type circuit (e.g., 160) samples the generated output for overlapping time intervals, and combines the sampled output to form a new output that characterizes the incident light. The overlapping time intervals 5 (e.g., 221-261) are chosen such that the new output is generally flicker-free for incident light generated using one of at least two different power supply frequencies.
