  • Patent number: 8474977
Abstract: A fiber optic illuminator is provided comprising an optics bed, a light source, a collimating lens, and a condensing lens. The light source is mounted in a fixed position with respect to the optics bed. The collimating lens is mounted in a fixed position with respect to the optics bed and collimates at least a portion of the light from the light source. A condensing lens receives the substantially collimated light output and focuses the collimated light output to optically couple to an optical fiber. The condensing lens may be mounted on an adjustable mount. The tolerances of the fixed optical elements i.e. light source and collimating lens allow the fixed optical elements to be positioned with a minimal amount of variation where the variation is determined by manufacturing tolerances associated with these individual elements and their mounts and couple them to the optics bed.

  • Patent number: 7044568
Abstract: A surgical console having a panel display mounted on a three-axis gimbel that permits articulation of the panel display via swivel, spin and tilt axes. The articulation mechanism uses two helix cable wraps with a single continuous cable that allows for large rotation of the panel display. The continuous cable simplifies construction and minimizes the electrical signal noise to the panel display.

  • Patent number: 6969032
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for use in ophthalmic surgery in which a container for fluid is connected to a line through which fluid flows to a surgical handpiece for the irrigation of a patient's eye are provided. A sensor emits a magnetic field and a detector causes another magnetic field to be generated. The interaction of the two magnetic fields causes a pulse to be generated. Based on the timing of the generated pulse, the apparatus or method determines the absolute position of the support coupled to the container and adjusts the height of the support. Circuitry is also provided to prevent changes in height of the support by preventing supply of drive currents and by applying a hold current or by generating an electro motive force.

  • Publication number: 20040036386
Abstract: A surgical console containing a protective drawer sized and shaped to receive a footswitch or other peripheral device. The electrical/communications connection between the peripheral device and the console is contained internally to the console. The drawer protects the peripheral device and any cabling associated with the peripheral device and provides a convenient and safe way of moving the peripheral device along with the console. The internal electrical/communications connection allows the device to be stored in the drawer without disconnecting the device from the console.
