  • Patent number: 8448212
Abstract: Provided are apparatuses and methods in a digital broadcast transmission system for receiving, processing and rendering transmitted content. A digital receiver capable of receiving and rendering both DVB-H and DVB-T signals may include a coupling means for connecting to another terminal for receiving program data or parameters. The digital receiver may reconfigure one or more components in order to handle the differing signal types. Such a receiver system allows a user to move seamlessly from a mobile device to a stationary device without significant effort and time. The receiver may further use transmission streams of varying priority to enhance and otherwise modify the displayed content according to a user's selection. Users with small display screens or poor eyesight may benefit from such enhancements features.

  • Patent number: 7698568
Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for providing DRM in a broadcast environment. In accordance with the embodiment, a DRM system distributes encrypted service keys over the mobile telephone network to a mobile terminal. The mobile terminal receives the encrypted service key and uses it to decrypt encrypted content keys received from a DVB set top box. The decrypted content keys are sent to the set box over local link where they are used to decrypt encrypted broadcast content. A power management technique for mobile receivers is also disclosed that enables the receiver hardware to power off during a portion of the rendering process.

  • Publication number: 20060112414
Abstract: Abstract of the Disclosure A coupling device to connect an external device, e.g. a mobile station, to a television receiver through a SCART or antenna connection using an LPRF link (e.g. Bluetooth). The coupling device contains the necessary electronics to receive the signal sent from the mobile station as an LPRF radio signal and convert it to a format suitable for television. The coupling device can be built as a small adapter that attaches directly to the SCART connector of the TV. The coupling device can be arranged to be capable of e.g. relaying a signal from a video recorder to the TV and to replace the signal with a signal presenting the information sent by the mobile station.

  • Publication number: 20050047426
Abstract: A terrestrial digital video broadcasting (DVB-T) receiver in the form of a set-top box transmits an electronic service guide (ESG) to a mobile terminal in the form of a mobile telephone handset. A user can browse the ESG using the mobile telephone handset and select content to record. The mobile telephone handset transmits an instruction to the set-top box to record content. The set-top box records the content. The content is transferred to the mobile telephone handset when a personal area network connection between the set-top box and handset is established. Different content transfer modes may be specified. Content transfer or the timing of content transfer may be made conditional on the location of the mobile telephone handset, the type of connection available and the amount of content to be transferred. Content recovery may be used to help provide robust content transfer.

  • Publication number: 20040184480
Abstract: A method of transmitting data, such as an MMS message 13, via a DVB network 4 comprises encapsulating the data 13, mapping the resulting data packet onto a transport packet 7, including filtering information 14 and/or payload scrambling control mode information 12 relating to scrambling of the data packet in the transport packet 7 and transmitting the transport packet 7 using a data carousel to one or more receiving devices STB1, STB2, MS3. The inclusion of filtering information 14 allows the use of hardware filters 18 for screening data via a data carousel at a receiving device STB1, while the inclusion of payload scrambling control mode information 12 allows any encryption of the transport packet 7 to be limited to the data packet, so that it is not necessary for the receiving device STB1, STB2, MS3 to decrypt the transport packet 7 before filtering. The filtering information 14 may be part or whole of an address associated with the receiving device STB1, e.g. an IP or MAC address.

  • Publication number: 20030232593
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for customizing a digital broadcast receiver to capture, send, and/or receive images. A digital broadcast receiver may capture an image in a video stream and store the captured image in memory for future use. The digital broadcast receiver may also receive an image from a mobile terminal and store the image in memory. The digital broadcast receiver may at any time transfer an image stored in memory to a mobile terminal. An album may be used for managing pictures stored on the digital broadcast receiver. The digital broadcast receiver may complete an Internet call by sending a call connection request to a mobile terminal in communication with the digital broadcast receiver, and that is also connected to the Internet. User interfaces for interacting with the digital broadcast receiver are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20030005329
Abstract: A system and method for enabling a user of a remote controller to transmit a PIN over a wireless connection in a secure manner. In accordance with the present invention, a terminal device, used for conducting transactions with a service provider, is coupled to the service provider via a data network and a display such as that of a television or personal computer. The same remote control device (either IR or RF) that is used to operate the display is also used to transmit an encoded PIN to the terminal. Session-specific coding rules for encoding the PIN are displayed to the user to guide him through the encoding process. Upon receipt of the encoded PIN, the terminal decodes it, validates it and, if appropriate, permits access to the requested transaction or service.

  • Publication number: 20020194303
Abstract: A system and method of providing consumer item information to consumers by equipping the consumers with portable shopping assistants (PSAs), which can receive identifying information (OI-Id) concerning specific consumer items (OIs). The PSA transmits the OI-Id to an information server system (ISS), which responds with either the appropriate consumer item information (P/S-Info) or a “key” (OI-Key) which can be used to retrieve the P/S-Info.

  • Publication number: 20020038459
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for transmitting through a single gateway terminal (100) the services required by a plurality of separate multimedia terminals (106). The gateway terminal receives the transmissions (103) coming from several different sources, descrambles and deinterleaves them, if necessary, and re-transmits at an ISM frequency the services required by the multimedia terminals. The service transmitted may be sound, pictures, video, data or system monitoring information. In addition, there is a two-way wireless link from an individual multimedia terminal to the gateway terminal, by means of which link an individual terminal can control the services included by the gateway terminal in its transmission (108).

  • Patent number: 6172673
Abstract: Equipment (2, 15) is used for the reception of multimedia presentations and for their playback to the user, said equipment comprising a storage and presentation apparatus such as a computer (16) or television (3) and a terminal of a bidirectional communications system such as a mobile phone (4) or cordless phone (19). The multimedia information is loaded dynamically, and keys needed to descramble scrambled transmissions are delivered to the user via a bidirectional communications system. In the terminal equipment a local agent (14) which uses only a little of system capacity takes care of information loading and checks the available resource. Bidirectional communications can also be used for making payments to the producer and/or distributor of the multimedia service in the form of operations similar to telebank services.
