  • Patent number: 5937056
Abstract: A communication network and associated method, which includes a plurality of switches, routes a call from a receiving switch to a destination switch either directly or through an alternate switch. Either the receiving switch or the destination switch, or both, analyze the contents of a store to determine whether the calling party or the called party is marked for alternate routing. The call may be routed to the alternate switch either from the receiving switch or the destination switch if the call is marked for alternate routing.

  • Patent number: 5905952
Abstract: A call is originated from a mobile station being served by a visited mobile switching center (MSC) and associated with a particular MSC as a home MSC. A base station subsystem (BSS) connected to the visited MSC dynamically establishes an A-interface with an application module within the home MSC transparently through the visited MSC. Thereinafter, all subscriber transmitted data are routed from the serving BSS to the home MSC. The application module within the home MSC then processes the data to provide mobile service to the mobile station.

  • Patent number: 5884170
Abstract: A mobile station communication network includes a high penetration network which schedules high transmission power level paging to reach a mobile station for which an acknowledgment signal is not received. A home location register stores mobile station high penetration network (HPN) subscriber feature information. The HPN analyzes mobile station class to determine an appropriate response when a mobile station fails to acknowledge a page request. The HPN further maintains a record of short message service (SMS) time out (timer) values and examines the ID of the center that generated the message to determine when the SMS center will time out. Just prior to the time out, the HPN will send a "user unavailable" signal to the originating SMS center to avoid unnecessary paging request retries by the SMS center.

  • Patent number: 5781858
Abstract: A method pertaining to a telecommunications system for handling supplementary services for a mobile unit. The system includes a public land mobile network to which the mobile unit has subscribed. The mobile telephone network includes a main switch or gateway switching center to which there is connected a home location register. The mobile unit services are stored in this register. The method includes the steps of sending an authority word belonging to the mobile unit and the identification of the mobile unit to the home location register from a telephone unit in the telecommunications system via a telephone connection intended for handling services; checking the authority word by comparing the word with an authority word known to the home location register; accepting the authority word received from the telephone unit; sending a service handling specification from the telephone unit to the home location register; and performing the specified handling of the service.

  • Patent number: 5621783
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for transferring a position mark (CO-B0) of a mobile subscriber (B0) in a telecommunications system. The telecommunications system includes a first mobile telephone network (PLMN01) which includes a main switching center (GMSC01) to which a home location register (HLR0) is connected. The telecommunications system also includes a second mobile telephone network (PLMN02) which includes at least one first switching center (MSC-B0). The first switching center includes a visitor location register (GLR-B0) in which the position mark (CO-B0) of the mobile subscriber (B0) is stored. The second mobile telephone network (PLMN02) also includes a main visitor location register (GLR02) which is cognizant of the visitor location register (GLR-B0) of the second mobile telephone network (PLMN02) in which the visiting mobile subscriber (B0) is registered temporarily.

  • Patent number: 5537457
Abstract: A method for handling calls to a terminal in a mobile telephone system of the kind in which the call is handled by an ISUP/IAM message which has a static relationship between the address of the visitor location register in the network in which the terminal roams, and the unique terminal identity. If the visitor location register has no data record relating to the unique identity, an attempt is made to collect from the home location register of the called subscriber the data that is required to complete the connection, this data being stored in the visitor location register. If the attempt is successful and the called subscriber is active, the connection is set up in a known manner with the aid of this data.

  • Patent number: 5467381
Abstract: A method and apparatus for avoiding the use of specially allocated, temporary roaming numbers in a mobile telephone system for routing outside calls to a mobile subscriber roaming in the system. An incoming standardized call signal frame comprising a first parameter field including a directory number is reconstructed. The directory number in the first parameter field is replaced with the unique routing number of the mobile telephone switching center within whose service area the mobile subscriber roams. A unique international mobile subscriber identity and the directory number are inserted in a second parameter field. This implies a static addressing principle in which the routing address will also contain directly the number of the called subscriber. This facilitates restoration of certain registers after a failure.
