Publication number: 20050059384Abstract: A mobile terminal comprises a registering functionality which is adapted to register terminal-based information about one or more missed call events which are not accepted by a user. Network-based information about one or more missed call events or voice messages registered by a PLMN to which the mobile terminal is subscribed is received. The network-based information is combined with the terminal-based information such that the mobile terminal is able to present the combined information to a user. Moreover, a method is provided for registering information about missed call events in a PLMN comprising at least an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) which is responsible for packet data services. An incoming call received by the IMS from a calling terminal originally destined to a called mobile terminal is redirected in accordance with Filter Criteria (FC) to the IMS and information about a missed call event in accordance with the incoming call is registered by the IMS.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 8, 2004Publication date: March 17, 2005Inventors: Jarmo Kuusinen, Ari Tourunen, Minna Asikainen

Patent number: 6810216Abstract: A circuit and method to decrease power consumption of fast infrared links. Reduced power consumption allows continuous infrared standby in battery-powered (and other power-consumption sensitive) devices. A low speed, low power-consumption infrared receiver preamplifier is used in conjunction with a higher speed, higher power-consumption infrared receiver preamplifier. While the battery-powered device awaits an infrared transmission, the low power-consumption receiver preamplifier operates in standby mode and the high power-consumption receiver preamplifier is in shutdown mode. Because the higher power consumption receiver preamplifier is in shutdown mode, standby power consumption is reduced and time between battery recharging is increased. When the low power receiver preamplifier detects an infrared transmission, the high power receiver preamplifier can be activated if high-speed communication is needed. An alternative discloses dual receivers rather than dual preamplifiers in one receiver.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1999Date of Patent: October 26, 2004Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventor: Ari Tourunen

Publication number: 20040042491Abstract: A method for acknowledged transmission of data packets in a telecommunications system, comprising a convergence protocol layer for creating convergence protocol packets, and a link layer for transmitting convergence protocol packets and for acknowledging the transmission. A data packet number is defined for the convergence protocol packets by means of counters of the transmitter and the receiver which are synchronized with each other, in which case the transmitted convergence protocol packets are acknowledged by means of said counters. After reconfiguration of a radio bearer, the counters are synchronized by comparing the values of respective counters, and if the value of the transmitter's counter is smaller than the value of the receiver's counter, a temporary counter is started for the receiver. The value of the transmitter's counter is set as the value of the temporary counter, and the temporary counter is used until its value reaches a predetermined value.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 20, 2003Publication date: March 4, 2004Inventors: Sinikka Sarkkinen, Ari Tourunen, Sari Maija Leppanen, Juha Kalliokulju

Publication number: 20030007512Abstract: A method of transmitting a context identifier of header compression on a data packet connection in a telecommunications system, in which the context identifier can be transmitted either as part of a compressed data packet or in the header of a data packet to be transmitted at the convergence protocol layer of the telecommunications system. The transmission method of the context identifier is selected by comparing the space available in the header of the convergence protocol layer data packets with the number of context identifiers defined for the compression method, and attaching the context identifiers to the headers of the convergence protocol layer data packets or to a compressed data packet, depending on whether the space available in the header of the convergence protocol layer data packets is larger or smaller than the number of context identifiers defined for the compression method.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 24, 2002Publication date: January 9, 2003Inventors: Ari Tourunen, Juha Kalliokulju

Publication number: 20020177413Abstract: The invention relates to a method for selecting a quality of service for a data transmission connection between a wireless terminal (MT1) and a mobile communication network (NW1). In the wireless terminal (MT1), at least one application (301, 302, 303) is arranged to be performed, which determines at least one parameter affecting the quality of service for said data transmission connection. In the method, the properties (401) of the wireless terminal (MT1) affecting the data transmission connection are determined and compared with at least one parameter affecting the quality of service determined by the application (301, 302, 303), to find out if any determined property (401) of the wireless terminal restricts the quality of service of the data transmission connection, with respect to at least one said parameter.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 13, 2002Publication date: November 28, 2002Inventors: Jarkko Jouppi, Juha Kalliokulju, Pertti Suomela, Ari Tourunen

Publication number: 20020105971Abstract: A method for arranging error control of packet-switched data, in which method at least a first part and a second part can be separated from the packets. In the method, errors detected in received data are checked, and conditions are determined for handling errors detected at least in the first and the second part. If an error is detected in a received first part and/or second part, the routine checks whether the conditions allow the first part and/or second part to be transmitted to upper protocol layers. If this is allowed, the first part and/or second part are transmitted to upper protocol layers.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 15, 2002Publication date: August 8, 2002Inventors: Ari Tourunen, Juha Kalliokulju

Publication number: 20020001298Abstract: A method of allocating data transmission resources in a packet-switched telecommunications system which comprises a terminal and a fixed network to which an operational entity is defined for defining resources for a radio bearer. Radio bearer resources are defined for the terminal on the basis of an application used on the radio bearer, and the used compression method of header fields in data packets is selected before the radio bearer resources are defined, the resources being defined in such a manner that they also comprise the capacity required by the selected compression method of header fields in data packets.
