  • Patent number: 8969292
Abstract: Leptin muteins, in particular leptin antagonists, with increased binding affinity to leptin receptor are provided. These compounds as well as pharmaceutical composition comprising them are useful for the treatment of any disorder in which a non-desirable or deleterious activity of endogenous leptin or an altered innate immune response is implicated.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 17, 2011
Date of Patent: March 3, 2015
Assignees: The Medical Research, Infrastructure, and Health Services Fund of the Tel-Aviv Medical Center, Yissum Research Development Company of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Ltd.
Inventors: Arieh Gertler, Eran Elinav, Zamir Halpern

  • Patent number: 7320868
Abstract: The present invention provides compositions and methods relating to avian leptin receptor binding domains. The present invention demonstrates that these compositions are useful for detecting the presence of leptin in a sample and distinguishing free leptin from bound leptin in multiple species. Methods and kits are presented for determining free leptin in a sample from an individual by assaying a sample for the binding of leptin to an avian leptin receptor binding domain, and detecting the bound leptin by using a labeled anti-leptin antibody.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 19, 2004
Date of Patent: January 22, 2008
    Inventors: Arieh Gertler, Radha Krishna
  • Patent number: 7307142
Abstract: The invention relates to synthetic leptin antagonists in which at least two amino acid residues of the sequence LDFI/S of the hydrophobic binding site at positions 39-42 of a leptin polypeptide sequence are substituted with different amino acid residues such that the site becomes less hydrophobic, and fragments of said leptin antagonists.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 26, 2004
Date of Patent: December 11, 2007
Assignees: Yissum Research and Development Company of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Universités Paris 6 et Paris 7, Institut Nationale de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA)
Inventors: Arieh Gertler, Isabelle Callebaut, Jean Djiane
