  • Publication number: 20090226351
Abstract: A supercritical oxidation process, which comprises pressurizing and heating an aqueous system to form a fluid phase under supercritical conditions, feeding an oxidizer into said fluid phase to cause an oxidation reaction therein, directing the resultant fluid reaction phase into a central region of a cooling chamber while providing a coolant in an internal peripheral region of said cooling chamber, said peripheral region being adjacent to the inner surface of the cooling chamber, mixing the fluid reaction phase with said coolant within the cooling chamber, removing the reaction mixture from said cooling chamber and subsequently further reducing the temperature and the pressure of said reaction mixture to obtain a product mixture.

  • Patent number: 7078122
Abstract: A process for rendering hazardous materials present in multi-element waste non-hazardous, and for recovering valuable components of said waste, particularly metals, comprising contacting the waste with an aqueous solution of HX, wherein X is halogen, thereby converting metals present in the waste to the corresponding halides, and subsequently separating said metal halides from other components of the reaction mixture and from each other.

  • Patent number: 4281320
Abstract: A protective barrier and burglar alarm in the form of a window blind includes a plurality of slats which may be compacted to open the blind, the slats being supported by flexible cords including electrical conductors establishing an electrically-conductive pathway through the length of the window blind. The lower end of the blind carries retaining means for retaining the blind in its closed position, and circuit-interrupting means effective when the blind is raised or severed to actuate an alarm. In one described embodiment, the retaining means and circuit interrupting means include mating pins and sockets; and in a second described embodiment, they include magnetic retainer elements adapted to actuate a magnetic reed switch carried at the lower end of the blind.
