  • Publication number: 20160351177
Abstract: The invention relates to estimating tempo information directly from a bitstream encoding audio information, preferably music. Said tempo information is derived from at least one periodicity derived from a detection of at least two onsets included in the audio information. Such onsets are detected via a detection of long to short block transitions (in the bitstream) or/and via a detection of a changing bit allocation (change of cost) regarding encoding/transmitting the exponents of transform coefficients encoded in the bitstream.

  • Patent number: 9466275
Abstract: The present document relates to methods and systems for estimating the tempo of a media signal, such as audio or combined video/audio signal. In particular, the document relates to the estimation of tempo perceived by human listeners, as well as to methods and systems for tempo estimation at scalable computational complexity. A method and system for extracting tempo information of an audio signal from an encoded bit-stream of the audio signal comprising spectral band replication data is described. The method comprises the steps of determining a payload quantity associated with the amount of spectral band replication data comprised in the encoded bit-stream for a time interval of the audio signal; repeating the determining step for successive time intervals of the encoded bit-stream of the audio signal, thereby determining a sequence of payload quantities; identifying a periodicity in the sequence of payload quantities; and extracting tempo information of the audio signal from the identified periodicity.

  • Publication number: 20160019908
Abstract: Embodiments are directed to a companding method and system for reducing coding noise in an audio codec. A compression process reduces an original dynamic range of an initial audio signal through a compression process that divides the initial audio signal into a plurality of segments using a defined window shape, calculates a wideband gain in the frequency domain using a non-energy based average of frequency domain samples of the initial audio signal, and applies individual gain values to amplify segments of relatively low intensity and attenuate segments of relatively high intensity. The compressed audio signal is then expanded back to substantially the original dynamic range that applies inverse gain values to amplify segments of relatively high intensity and attenuating segments of relatively low intensity. A QMF filterbank is used to analyze the initial audio signal to obtain a frequency domain representation.

  • Patent number: 9058282
Abstract: A system, processor and method to monitor specific cache events and behavior based on established principles of quantized architectural vulnerability factor (AVF) through the use of a dynamic cache write policy controller. The output of the controller is then used to set the write back or write through mode policy for any given cache. This method can be used to change cache modes dynamically and does not require the system to be rebooted. The dynamic nature of the controller provides the capability of intelligently switching from reliability to performance mode and back as needed. This method eliminates the residency time of dirty lines in a cache, which increases soft errors (SER) resiliency of protected caches in the system and reduces detectable unrecoverable errors (DUE), while keeping implementation cost of hardware at a minimum.

  • Patent number: 8914672
Abstract: An apparatus and method is described herein for replacing faulty core components. General purpose hardware is provided to replace core pipeline components, such as execution units. In the embodiment of execution unit replacement, a proxy unit is provided, such that mapping logic is able to map instruction/operations, which correspond to faulty execution units, to the proxy unit. As a result, the proxy unit is able to receive the operations, send them to general purpose hardware for execution, and subsequently write-back the execution results to a register file; it essentially replaces the defective execution unit allowing a processor with defective units to be sold or continue operation.
