  • Patent number: 11459759
Abstract: Roof shingles are provided, as well as methods of fabricating and using the shingles and roofs comprising the shingles. A shingle can include a plurality of perforations in the protruding part thereof to significantly reduce the pressure in the leading edge, the remainder of the protruding part, and/or in the area behind the sealing strip of the shingle. The perforations can be disposed in the protruding part of the shingle down from the sealing strip. Any water entering the perforations can therefore be blocked by the sealing strips and will flow down the roof slope.

  • Patent number: 10138632
Abstract: A roof system includes a roof panel formed of concrete and an architectural surface such as a corrugated surface. A first layer of reinforcing material is disposed along and spaced inwardly from a first surface of the roof panel, and an optional second layer of reinforcing material is disposed along and spaced inwardly from a second surface of the roof panel. The first layer of reinforcing material is spaced from the second layer of reinforcing material. The reinforcing material may be formed of fiber-reinforced polymer mesh, made with carbon fibers or glass fibers. FRP rebar may be used in conjunction with FRP mesh to provide added structural strength. The roof panel may include one or more elongated ribs having a thickness greater than adjacent portions of the roof panel. In other aspects, concrete structures with reinforcing material may be used for either roof panels or wall applications.

  • Patent number: 9951752
Abstract: The current invention provides apparatuses and methods for protecting buildings/structures from wind damage and simultaneously harvesting energy from wind. The apparatuses of the current invention comprise horizontal axial wind turbines integrated to the roof-edge of the buildings/structures in an aerodynamically conducive and structurally viable configuration to reduce roof suction. The apparatuses of the current invention can further comprise aerodynamic roof gutter and structural supports/connections to alleviate wind-induced suction (negative pressures) on building roofs generated by separated flows and vortices. The apparatuses of the current invention can also comprise vertical axial wind turbines integrated to the wall-edge of the structures/buildings in an aerodynamically conducive and structurally viable configuration to reduce wind induced wall suction generated by separated flows and vortices.
