  • Patent number: 7450674
Abstract: Systems and methods for processing received signals are disclosed and may include determining, for each block of data in a received frame, diversity combining weight vectors based on a channel estimate and a correlation matrix of an unwanted signal. For each sample in each of the block of data in the received frame, a corresponding one of the diversity combining weight vectors may be applied to extract a corresponding logic level. For the each block of the data in the received frame, a new correlation matrix of the unwanted signal may be generated based on the extracted corresponding logic level and the channel estimate, to process the received frame. The received signals may include a sequence of information data blocks, and each data block may include a plurality of samples. Each of the received signals may include an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol and/or a multicarrier modulated symbol.

Date of Patent: November 11, 2008
    Assignee: Broadcom Corporation
Inventors: Apostolos Papathanasiou, Emmanuel Frantzeskakis, Aristidis Posonidis, Konstantinos Aretos

  • Patent number: 7295637
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling an antenna array for wireless communication are described. The method uses the statistical characteristics of the received signal noise in controlling the antenna array in order to achieve directional reception in a wireless communication system and suppress co-channel interference. Furthermore, the method can be used to power space-division multiple access and can be used in conjunction with multi-carrier modulation signaling.

  • Publication number: 20040142665
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling an antenna array for wireless communication are described. The method is applied at a receiver and it uses a least squares algorithm for recovering the spatial signature of each of a plurality of signals transmitted simultaneously by a plurality of transmitters. The spatial signature is used for controlling the antenna array in order to achieve directional reception in a wireless communication system and suppress co-channel interference. The method can be used either in single transmitter configurations for smart antenna reception or multi-transmitter configurations for space-division multiple access systems. Furthermore, it can be used in conjunction with multi-carrier modulation signaling.
