  • Patent number: 8816872
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for monitoring the productivity, operability, and safety conditions of factory machinery and particularly unitizers. The system monitors factory machines such as a unitizer in a corrugated box factory, using one or more sensors to determine whether and how efficiently the machinery is operating, to determine if any conditions of the machinery require immediate attention, and to determine if a safety violation has occurred with respect to the machinery. The system appropriately notifies a factory manager of issues that arise. In addition, the system aggregates data about past performance and safety violations and generates reports about the aggregated data to help factory managers maximize productivity of the monitored machinery. The disclosed system is particularly advantageous in that it enables improvement of the productivity of the factory as a whole.

  • Patent number: 8175445
Abstract: A non-contact cutter for a polymer corner protector disposed on a load includes an air manifold having an inlet and an outlet and defining an air passage and a heating element disposed at least in part in the air passage. A compressed gas is communicated to the manifold and into the air passage for intimate contact with the heating element to heat the gas. The heated gas is discharged through the outlet to contact and soften the polymer corner protector at a desired location to separate the corner protector at the desired location. A system and method for non-contact cutting are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7428865
Abstract: A strapping machine includes a frame, a vertically movable upper carriage, a strap chute including an upper leg mounted to the movable upper carriage, a pair of spaced apart compression plates mounted to the movable upper carriage for vertically compressing the load and a pair of side squaring elements movable toward and away from one another configured figured for horizontal movement to contact the sides of the load. The side squaring elements are disposed between the compression plates. The machine is controlled by a control system such that following a first strapping cycle and prior to a second strapping cycle the control system generates a signal to raise the compression plates from the load about 3 inches and a to move the side squaring elements away from the load about 3 inches. The machine includes a corner pad applicator assemblies for applying a corner pad at each of the upper corners of the load prior to positioning, tensioning and sealing the strapping material to itself about the load.
