  • Publication number: 20180294873
Abstract: The adjustment of output power of a transmitter is described. In one embodiment, a first laser diode of a transmitter is directed to transmit a first pulse of light at a first wavelength over a fiber cable. A second laser diode of the transmitter is also directed to transmit a second pulse of light at a second wavelength over the fiber cable. An output tap of the transmitter is monitored to detect a first timing of a first reflection event on the fiber cable, and the output tap of the transmitter is also monitored to detect a second timing of a second reflection event on the fiber cable. An output power of the first laser diode is tuned or adjusted based on the first timing, and an output power of the second laser diode is tuned or adjusted based on the second timing.

  • Patent number: 9967024
Abstract: The automatic adjustment of output power of a transmitter is described. In one embodiment, an optical transmitter is directed to transmit a pulse of light over a communications link, such as a fiber optic cable, and a timer is started with reference to the transmission. An output tap of the transmitter is monitored to detect the transmission of the pulse of light and any reflection events which occur due to the transmission. A final reflection event is identified, along with a timing associated with the final reflection event using the timer. A length of the communications link is estimated based on the timing. An updated output power for the transmitter is calculated based on the estimated length of the communications link. The output power for the transmitter can be reduced when the length of the link is less than that expected, while maintaining a minimum power margin at a receiver.

  • Publication number: 20130105456
Abstract: A solar energy system comprising a defrosting module. The defrosting module includes a first light sensor configured to be located on a solar panel and to produce a first signal which is proportional to the intensity of sunlight reaching the solar panel. The defrosting module includes a second light sensor configured to be located proximate to the solar panel and configured to produce a second signal which is proportional to the intensity of ambient sunlight in the vicinity of the solar panel. The defrosting module includes a control circuit configured to compare the first signal and the second signal and to produce an activation signal when the difference between the first signal and the second signal reaches a threshold value, wherein the activation signal is configured to activate a heater module coupled to the solar panel.

  • Patent number: 7915512
Abstract: Disclosed is an audio device that adjusts the cadence of played songs. A user sensor determines cadence data based on movement of the user. A desired cadence is determined based on the cadence data received from the sensor. The cadence of songs is determined by low pass filtering digital representations of the songs and determining the period (T) of the back beat of the songs. An adjustment of the period (T) of the songs is then determined such that the adjustment of the period (T) of the songs results in the songs having the desired cadence. The period (T) of the back beat of the subsequent songs are then adjusted.

  • Patent number: 6580543
Abstract: In accordance with the invention, a multimode optical fiber communication system is provided with offset illumination by disposing an optical pinhole adjacent an end of the multimode fiber core and offset from the center of the core. The pinhole permits direct offset illumination without the difficulty and expense of a conventional patch-cord assembly.
