  • Patent number: 9638934
Abstract: An eyewear hinge is provided for removably connecting an earpiece to a lens frame. A lens mount is attached to the lens frame and has one of a hinge receiver and a security slot or a hinge post and a security ledge. A hinge support is attached to the earpiece and has the other of the hinge receiver and the security slot or the hinge post and the security ledge. The hinge post is removably insertable into the hinge receiver and the security ledge is removably receivable in and engages with the security slot as the lens mount and hinge support pivot relative to one another.

  • Patent number: 8832904
Abstract: An eyewear hinge having a lens mount and a hinge support, wherein a post from the hinge support engages a hinge receiver on the lens mount. The lens mount has a security slot that is configured to receive and engage a security ledge on the hinge support. Engagement of the security ledge by the security slot provides for secure retention of the hinge support by the lens mount without the use of screws or tight, friction fit pins. The security ledge and the security slot may include mating ridges and/or grooves on their top and/or bottom surfaces which act as threads to provide a threaded engagement of the ledge with the slot. The eyewear hinge may also include magnets configured to snap the hinge support into particular angles of rotation.

  • Patent number: 7229168
Abstract: A magnetic hinge system includes a first hinge member associated with a first object, such as the frame of a primary eyewear, and having outwardly-facing facets. A second hinge member is attached to second object, such as a secondary eyewear, and defines a slot having inwardly-facing facets configured to overlie less than all of the outwardly facing facets of the first hinge member. At least some of the facets are magnetized or include magnets to couple the second hinge member to the first hinge member, and permit selective segmented rotation relative to one another. The second hinge member may also define a second slot configured for insertion of a portion of the secondary eyewear therein. A track may be used for supporting at least one hinge member, and provide attachment to a bill of a visor or hat.

  • Patent number: 6939003
Abstract: A detachable magnetic hinge system for rotatably coupling objects, such as primary eyewear and auxiliary eyewear includes first and second hinge members which are magnetically coupled to one another. The first hinge member is associated with the first object and has at least six generally planar outwardly-facing facets. The second hinge member is associated with the second object and has a plurality of generally planar inwardly-facing facets configured to detachably overlie less than all of the outwardly-facing facets of the first hinge member. Due to the magnetic coupling, selective segmented rotation of the second hinge member relative to the first hinge member is provided.

  • Patent number: 6869180
Abstract: A universal eyeglass attachment includes a docking head which is removably attachable to a frame of primary eyeglasses. A clip or coupling is attached to auxiliary eyewear and configured for connection to the docking head so as to removably attach the auxiliary eyewear to the primary eyeglasses. The clip or coupling is preferably pivotally attached to the auxiliary eyewear to enable a user to selectively move the eyewear away from lenses of the primary eyeglasses. Swing-arm locks can be incorporated to strengthen the frictional engagement fit between the auxiliary eyeware and eyeglass frame.

  • Publication number: 20050039240
Abstract: A device associated with a cap, visor or hat having a bill, which allows a wearer to selectively view objects through a lens or face shield includes a mounting member adapted to be removably attached to the bill of the cap. The mounting member may be a sleeve adapted to removably receive the bill, a clip for removable attachment with the bill, or a shell adapted to overlie at least a portion of an exterior surface of the cap and bill. An eye shield is attached to the mounting member so as to be selectively positionable relative to the eyes of the wearer. The eye shield, which includes the lens, is preferably attached to the mounting member such that it can be moved between various positions relative to the eyes of the wearer. The eye shield and lens are also preferably removably attached to the mounting member to accommodate different lenses.
