  • Patent number: 6761140
Abstract: In an intake system for an internal combustion engine having a cylinder head with at least one inlet duct per cylinder, an essentially flat control flap is supported in the inlet duct on a pivot shaft pivotally about an axis which is disposed in spaced relationship upstream from the control flap by way of side support arms such that, in an open position, the control flap rests against a wall portion of the inlet duct from where it can be swiveled into the intake duct into a flow directing turbulence generating position.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 13, 2002
Date of Patent: July 13, 2004
    Assignee: DaimlerChrysler AG

  • Patent number: 6158218
Abstract: A superchargeable internal combustion engine with cylinder cut-off has a first cylinder group which operates over the entire operating range of the internal combustion engine. A second cylinder group is cut off or connected up as a function of demand. The engine's response dynamics when the second cylinder group is connected up by providing an exhaust-gas turbocharger which is used exclusively for supercharging the first cylinder group. A mechanical supercharger is provided which is used exclusively for supercharging the second cylinder group.
