    Abstract: Halogenovinyl-substituted tetrahydrofuran-2-ones of the formula ##STR1## are prepared by reacting a peracid such as peracetic, perpropionic or m-chloroperbenzoic acid with a halogenvinyl-substituted cyclobutanene of the formula ##STR2## in which R.sup.1 to R.sup.8 can be hydrogen, halogen, cyano or various organic radicals, or in pairs can make up a ring. Products wherein R.sup.3 is not hydrogen or R.sup.1 is not halogen are new. The products are useful as intermediates in making insecticides.
