  • Publication number: 20050263253
Abstract: An embossing machine (11) for transferring holograms, etc. from a support foil (17) to a web or sheet (16) has a die cylinder (13) and a counterpressure cylinder (14) between which the printing gap (18) is adjustable by means of a rocker (23) mounting the die cylinder (13). A die cylinder electric drive (30) makes it possible by means of a three-phase motor supplied via a controllable frequency converter to move the die cylinder varying from the synchronous speed of the counterpressure cylinder. Reaction forces resulting from the acceleration and deceleration of the electric drive (30) are led off directly from the electric drive stator, via a bracket, to the machine frame.

  • Publication number: 20050178508
Abstract: The hot foil stamping mechanism (11) is used for the transfer of surface portions, such as holograms, etc., onto a flat material (1) in the form of a continuous web or sheet. The hot foil stamping mechanism (11) operating in rotary manner has two cooperating cylinders forming a working gap (14) between them. For maintaining constant and precisely adjusting the working gap (14) adjusting means (40) are provided, which have an adjustable adjusting element (44a-c) engaging between the cylinders (12, 13) and acting on the latter by means of running elements (41, 50). The running elements run on the cylinder. The adjusting means can be anti-friction bearings located on the cylinder journal (28). An adjusting element in the form of a wedge or the like supports the outer ring bearings against one another and consequently maintains a constant cylinder spacing.

  • Patent number: 6606942
Abstract: The invention relates to a die stamping method and to a device for performing the method. The problem of the invention is to reduce the production of waste during die stamping. This is brought about in that on supplying the foil web to the stamping station a sensor means monitors whether there is a defect therein. If a defect is detected, the foil web supply to the stamping station is controlled in such a way that the defect is conveyed through the stamping station between two stamping operations. Thus, the defect does not arrive in the stamping or printing area of the stamping station, so that no waste is produced.

  • Patent number: 6519821
Abstract: In a hot stamping or embossing method for stamping single sheets or webs with stamping product located on a stamping foil web, the material to be printed is moved through the stamping gap and the stamping foil web is jointly moved in such a way that during stamping intervals it is moved at the same speed as the printing material and outside the stamping intervals, at least temporarily, it has a foil speed differing from the printing material speed. According to the invention between two selected stamping intervals the stamping foil web is briefly accelerated in such a way that a space between succeeding, stamping product-delivering stamping product areas of the stamping foil web is larger than the corresponding, unprinted area of the printing material between succeeding stamping locations, which can be utilized for economizing foil material.

  • Patent number: 6425323
Abstract: In a method and an apparatus for disposing of thin, flexible material, which is in the form of a material web moved in the web direction and supplied to the disposal apparatus, a front web section at the front in the movement direction is held fast in areal manner by first holding means and a second web section spaced behind the same is held fast in areal manner by second holding means. The web material is separated by a separating device in an exposed and optionally taut intermediate section located between the retained web sections. Even tear-sensitive material can be reliably held by the flat-engaging holding means. The separation of web material held on both sides under the action of a knife or the like can take place in troublefree manner, particularly without drawing in the material. The apparatus can be used with particular advantage for the continuous disposal of used stamping film in hot stamping devices.

  • Patent number: 6230616
Abstract: A storage device for receiving a loop section of a flexible material web (8) moved in a conveying direction (18) between a feed area upstream of the storage device and a discharge area downstream thereof is described, the material web speeds at least periodically differing from one another in the feed area and the discharge area. The speed differences are compensated by a length change of the loop section stored in the storage device. On the feed side the storage device has a first pulling device formed by a suction belt (35, 55) and on the discharge side a separate, second pulling device formed by a parallel suction belt (35, 56). As a result of the parallel suction belts the drawn-in loop section is securely held by vacuum over most of its length, whereas between the pulling devices a tensile force-free loop partial section (4a) is moved to and fro in the store longitudinal direction with substantially no shape change in accordance with the store filling.

  • Patent number: 5611272
Abstract: A rotary embossing machine includes an embossing mechanism in which an embossing gap is formed between an embossing cylinder and a counter pressure cylinder. For conveying an embossing film web through the embossing gap, the rotary embossing machine includes a conveying mechanism for producing a movement of the web at the same speed as a material layer to be embossed, during an embossing interval. The film conveying mechanism includes a pulling device downstream of the embossing gap which is provided with a slip drive for the embossing film web and a controllable film supply device upstream of the embossing gap which cooperates with the pulling device. This arrangement avoids the risk of the embossing films or foils tearing and improves the embossing quality.
