Patent number: 8430886Abstract: An inserter for locating and impacting an acetabular cup which has an inner bearing surface in a prepared acetabulum. The inserter has a handle carrying an anvil, an impaction head adapted to receive the cup and a retention system for attaching the cup to the inserter. The retention system extends between an actuator in the handle and the impaction head. The actuator is operable to free the retention system from the cup by impacting the anvil.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 2010Date of Patent: April 30, 2013Assignee: Howmedica Osteonics Corp.Inventors: Neil Rushton, Richard Eddy Field, Arnaud AuxEpaules, Aude Hibon

Patent number: 8114166Abstract: A retentive and removable trial bearing insert is used with a total hip replacement joint. The joint includes a dual mobility or bipolar prosthetic cup which has a part-spherical bearing insert with a part-spherical inner bearing surface which engages a part-spherical bearing head on a femoral stem. The bearing comprises a part-spherical trial inner bearing element dimensioned to replace the part-spherical bearing insert and which includes releasable retaining element which engages the bearing head of the femoral stem or a trial bearing head thereof to hold the trial bearing element in place thereon.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 2006Date of Patent: February 14, 2012Assignee: Benoist Girard SASInventors: Arnaud Auxepaules, Nicolas Delogé

Patent number: 7833276Abstract: An acetabular prosthesis having an outer member for engaging the acetabulum. The outer member has a part-spherical bearing surface terminating in a distal rim. The rim has a contour such that the portion thereof to be located between the ischium and the pubis extends distally further from an equator of the bearing surface than the contour to be implanted between the pubis and the illium and between the ischium and the illium.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2004Date of Patent: November 16, 2010Assignee: Benoist Girard SASInventors: Arnaud Auxepaules, Nicolas Delogé, Patrick Raugel

Patent number: 7520902Abstract: A prosthetic hip joint replacement system has a femoral component with a tapered trunion thereon. A modular head with a part-spherical outer surface terminating in a planar surface, engages the trunion. An acetabular cup member is provided for receiving the part-spherical head of a femoral implant, the cup member has a cavity having a part-spherical inner surface for receiving the modular head. The part-spherical inner surface of the cup defines a polar axis and an equator centered about a pole of the cavity. The cavity has a part-circular opening spaced from the pole a greater distance than the equator. Thus the inner part-spherical bearing surface extends beyond the 180° which the equator extends. The configuration of the part-spherical inner bearing surface causes a movement of translation of the head during rotation so that there is a crescent shaped retention area on each opposed side thereof.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 2005Date of Patent: April 21, 2009Assignee: Benoist Girard SASInventors: Nicolas Delogé, Arnaud Auxepaules

Patent number: 7341593Abstract: An acetabular cup shell inserter has a first end with a handle and a wire coupling element. The inserter has a shell insertion end opposite the first end having a radial expandable element for contacting an inner surface of the acetabular cup shell. A tubular portion is provided extending between the handle end and the insertion end. The tubular portion may be curved. A wire having a first end coupled to the coupling element at the first end is provided. The wire extends through the tubular portion and into the insertion end, the wire having a second end coupled to a moveable element for expanding the expandable element. The inserter includes a system for applying tension to the wire, such as by moving the wire in a direction towards the first end, the tension causing the expandable element to expand and grip the inner surface of the shell.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 2005Date of Patent: March 11, 2008Assignee: Benoist Girard SASInventors: Arnaud Auxepaules, Nicolas Delogé
