  • Publication number: 20180274436
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for expediting turbine spool up during an engine restart following an engine stop while a vehicle is in motion. In one example, a method includes, in response to engine restart conditions being met, operating an electrically driven compressor to supply compressed air to a turbocharger turbine for expedited turbine spool up during engine cranking.

  • Publication number: 20120085316
Abstract: A direct-injection internal combustion engine is provided. The engine comprises at least one cylinder in which a combustion chamber is jointly formed by a piston crown of a piston and by a cylinder head, each cylinder having an inlet opening for the supply of fresh air, and an injection nozzle which is arranged in the cylinder head on the opposite side of the piston crown, on which injection nozzle, at a free end projecting into the combustion chamber, are provided a plurality of nozzle holes for the direct injection of the fuel, the injection nozzle being arranged eccentrically, spaced apart from a longitudinal axis of the cylinder and inclined at an angle ? to the longitudinal axis of the cylinder, at least two of the plurality of nozzle holes including opening cross-sections of different size. In this way, an equal fuel distribution in the cylinder may be provided.

  • Publication number: 20070089412
Abstract: The invention relates to an arrangement for controlling an exhaust gas flow through an exhaust gas recirculation system for an internal combustion engine having a turbocharger. The exhaust gas recirculation system has an exhaust gas cooler and a bypass which is capable of diverting at least a portion of exhaust gas flow from the cooler, the exhaust gas cooler and the bypass each being assigned a separate valve for enabling and disabling the flow of the exhaust gas. At full load of the internal combustion engine, the valves are closed together and/or at the same time. The valves are arranged at the upstream side of the exhaust gas recirculation system. When the two valves are closed, the exhaust gas recirculation system is decoupled from.
