  • Publication number: 20180258799
Abstract: The invention ECT relates to methods for improving the amount of electricity gained from preferably waste heat by a normal or an organic (ORC) Rankine process with vaporization in several stages, normally three. The waste heat in sensible form is exchanged in at least two in series coupled evaporators to a receiving working fluid (e.g. a refrigerant) that passes at least two of said evaporators, but coupled in parallel. Of the waste heat between the temperature of the heat source and that of the heat sink about 80% can be used for direct electricity generation. An embodiment of the invention uses a radial turbine with a centripetal (inwards) flow direction. The different vapor enthalpies from the said vaporization stages enters a turbine wheel/runner 51 at different outside diameters D2, D2? and/or with suitable tangential velocities obtained by different guiding vane sets 65, 66 and 67.

  • Patent number: 5261354
Abstract: A PFBC power plant with a combustor (3) enclosed within a pressure vessel (1). The combustor (3) is formed as a polygonal prism with, for example, hexagonal cross section. The bed section (3a) of the combustor (3) accomodates a steam generator constructed from at least three groups (23) of plane tube discs (24), in which groups (23) the discs are oriented parallel to opposite sides walls in the combustor (3). Each tube disc (24) may comprise both evaporation and superheater tubes (25a, 25b, 25c) which may comprise tubes in several parallel planes. In a preferred embodiment, each group (23) of tube discs (24) fills up a parallelepipedic space in the lower part (3a) of the combustor (3).

  • Patent number: 5176089
Abstract: The invention relates to a power plant with combustion of a fuel at a pressure exceeding the atmospheric pressure in a fluidized bed (18) of particulate material, a so-called PFBC power plant. A combustor (12) is enclosed within a pressure vessel (10) and surrounded by compressed combustion air. Ash chambers (44) in the lower part of the combustor (12) are enclosed in one or more spaces (50) with walls (52, 53) which are suitably designed as plane, water-cooled panel walls. The ash chambers (44) are designed with uncooled walls (62). Pressure equalizing openings (64) are provided in the ash chamber walls (62), which openings equalize any pressure differences which may arise between the ash chambers (44) and the surrounding space (50). The walls (52, 53) which form the space surrounding the ash chambers absorb the pressure difference between the ash chambers (44) and the space (32) between the combustor (12) and the pressure vessel (10).

  • Patent number: 5119923
Abstract: To enable a torque transmitting device to be mounted between and removed from spaced aligned stub shafts (2a, 3a) of an electric motor (2) and a pump (3) without moving the stub shafts, the device is divisible and comprises three rotary members (15, 20, 30) connected serially with an elastic coupling (13B) and a controllable variable subclutch (10C) and a stationary member (40) able to transmit control signals to the clutch. At least three of the four members (15, 20, 30, 40) have central openings allowing insertion of the stub shafts.

  • Patent number: 4854854
Abstract: A fuel burning power plant comprises a bed vessel with a bottom grate which divides the bed vessel into an upper combustion chamber and a lower part with at least one ash chamber. The bed grate consists of parallel air distribution tubes each with air nozzles, between which tubes gaps are provided where bed material may pass from the combustion chamber down to the ash chamber. Below the tubes there is a transverse air distribution chamber. The tubes are connected in groups to the air distribution chamber by a double-walled sleeve extending down from the tubes.

  • Patent number: 4805405
Abstract: A power plant with combustion of a fuel in fluidized bed (21) of particulate material, usually contains a sulphur absorbent. A bottom (14) divides a bed vessel (12) into an upper combustion chamber (15) and a lower conical or pyramid-shaped ash discharge chamber (16) for discharging ashes and consumed bed material. The bottom (14) is formed with openings (22) through which material is able to pass. Cooling air is supplied to the lower part of the lower chamber (16). This chamber (16) is provided with grates (37, 38) with horizontal channels (46) for spreading cooling air from the central part of the chamber (16) to its outer parts. These grates (37, 38) may be formed of U-sections with their openings facing downwards. The channels (46) of a grate (37) may be connected to the combustion chamber (15) by vertical tubes (50).

  • Patent number: 4760817
Abstract: The corners of the walls of a vessel in which fuel is burnt in the fluidized bed of a PFBC power plant are articulately connected to a supporting framework. The forces arising on the bed vessel walls are taken up by the framework and are transmitted to the framework by means of a plurality of links. At each corner the construction of links allows the corner to be displaced in relation to the framework. This corner-connection includes auxiliary beams which are substantially parallel to the walls and are at one of their ends articulately connected to the framework.

  • Patent number: 4555218
Abstract: In a rotodynamic cross flow machine at least one vane (4) is positionably fixed in the rotor (40') so as to be able to pivot about two axes which are at least approximately perpendicular one to another, and of which at least one subtends an angle between 5.degree. and 85.degree. or between 95.degree. and 175.degree. with a plane comprising the rotational axis (1) of the rotor and the pivot point (14, 15) of the respective vane. Thereby is achieved, among other things, that the position of the vane can be set during operation in a simple way with the aid of a stationary setting means (18) which changes the inclination of an end element (5) of the rotor to which end element the vane is connected in said manner. The invention is applicable among other things to the construction of water turbines which have to work with a small head.
