Patent number: 6912590Abstract: A telecommunications platform has a cluster of processors which collectively perform a platform processing function. Plural processors of the cluster have Internet Protocol (IP) capabilities and respective plural IP interfaces. The plural processors of the cluster all have a same IP address. An Internet Protocol (IP) handler distributed throughout the cluster renders the IP interfaces of the plural processors of the cluster exchangeable so that knowledge of which one of the plural processors of the cluster is hosting an IP software application being accessed is unnecessary when selecting one of the plural IP interfaces for connecting to the cluster.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1999Date of Patent: June 28, 2005Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Arne Lundbäck, Göran Hansson

Patent number: 6738381Abstract: A queuing system (230) stores a package (246) derived from an ATM cell, the package including an internal interface header (IIH) and either an ATM cell payload or an AAL2 packet. The queuing system comprises a queue (312, 320) for storing the package, as well as a processor which executes plural functions. A time stamping function applies a time stamp upon storage of the package in the queue. The time stamping function can apply the time stamp to a package as replacement of the internal interface header. A time stamp checking function uses the time stamp to make a determination whether the tenure of the package in the queue is longer than permissible. The time stamp checking function can make the tenure determination in conjunction with a potential readout of the package from the queue. Alternatively, time stamp checking function can make the tenure determination when invoked by a queue monitoring function which monitors a fill level of the queue (e.g., when a queue fill level exceeds a threshold).Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1998Date of Patent: May 18, 2004Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Johan Mikael Agnevik, Arne Lundbäck, Lars-Göran Petersen, Mattias Östman

Patent number: 6597698Abstract: An ATM switching node has an ATM switch (30) to which at least one inter-node physical link (56) is connected. In addition, a cell handling unit (32) connected to the ATM switch has a centralized queuing resource (230) which queues ATM cells which are to be routed through the ATM switch for transmission from the node on the physical link. ATM cells destined for the physical link from the queuing resource are discharged from the queuing resource in accordance with a parameter of the physical link. The parameter is preferably the capacity (e.g., transmission rate) of the physical link. In the illustrated embodiment, the node is one of the following nodes of a cellular telecommunications network: a base station (42); a base station controller (44); a mobile switching center (46).Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1998Date of Patent: July 22, 2003Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Arne Lundbäck, Lars-Göran Petersen, Mattias Östman, Ola Engström

Patent number: 6504845Abstract: An ATM switching node has a queuing resource (230) connected to an ATM switch core (30). The queuing resource provides centralized queuing for ATM cells destined for routing through the ATM switch core to plural output links. The ATM switch core routes an ATM cell destined for any output link requiring queuing to the centralized queuing resource. ATM cells for output links not requiring queuing are not directed to the queuing resource. The queuing resource has a link multiplexer (280) for each output link which is handled by the queuing resource. Each link multiplexer has both a first stage (304) and a second stage (302). The second stage comprises plural queues (312) for storing ATM packets and a second stage multiplexer (314) for selecting the ATM packets stored in the plural queues of the second stage for transmission to the first stage.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1998Date of Patent: January 7, 2003Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Lars-Göran Petersen, Arne Lundbäck, Johan Mikael Agnevik, Mattias Östman

Patent number: 6480492Abstract: To form internal control paths in an ATM node (20, 120), “half trails” (HF) are initially established and subsequently connected to form complete trails (FT). In an ATM node having plural node entities (30, 130) or device boards connected to a switch core (24, 124), for each node entity a main control path program (70) executed by a node main processor () initially forms both a listening half trail and a sending half trail extending from the node main processor and switch core. Separately and independently, i.e., without prior communication with the node main processor, an entity control path program (80) executed by an entity processor (50, 150) at each node entity establishes a listening half trail between itself and the switch core. For each node entity, the entity control path program establishes the same VPI/VCI as the listening half trail. The entity processor then receives on its independently established listening half trail (i.e., on the predetermined VPI/VCI) a handshaking request.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 1999Date of Patent: November 12, 2002Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Arne Lundbäck, Göran Hansson, Torgny Lindberg

Publication number: 20020112231Abstract: The distribution of load modules to processors of a telecommunication platform (20) vis facilitated by software allocation manage objects (SWA-MAOs). Each software allocation manage object associates a hardware location manage object (representing a hardware or equipment location within the platform or node) with a repertoire (R-MAO). The repertoire is a manage object which specifies one or more hardware entities, and for each specified hardware entity provides a list of one or more potentially downloadable load modules. When the presence of a new hardware entity is detected at a hardware location in the telecommunications node or platform, a node support function downloads an appropriate load module(s) to the new hardware entity, using the repertoire forming the software allocation manage object which affects the hardware location to determine which load module(s) are appropriate for the downloading.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 13, 2000Publication date: August 15, 2002Inventors: Arne Lundback, Roger Abrahamsson, Jan Homle

Publication number: 20020073409Abstract: A telecommunications platform (20) comprises a cluster (32) of processors (30) which perform a platform central processing function. The platform central processing function includes a cluster support function (50) which is distributed to the cluster of processors. For sake of redundancy, programs (PGMs) are distributed throughout the cluster so that at least some of the processors of the cluster have active versions of at least some of the programs and standby versions of others of the programs, e.g., an intermixing of assignments of active and standby versions of programs. Moreover, programs and programs comprising them can be loaded, started, shutdown, stopped, and upgraded without terminating overall operation the platform. In its various aspects, the cluster support function (50) includes a state storage system (200) and a name server system (300) for facilitating restart and switch over of programs and programs executed by processors of the cluster.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 13, 2000Publication date: June 13, 2002Inventors: Arne Lundback, Rolf Eriksson, Staffan Larsson, Mats Nilsson

Publication number: 20020073410Abstract: Software in the form of a program (60) is replaced (e.g., upgraded) on a telecommunications platform (node) (620, 20) without shutting down the telecommunications functions of the platform. The old program (601.0) that is replaced is of a type which stores state information in a state storage system (200). In connection with a software (program) replacement operation for the old program, after a new program (601.1) is started either a shutdown (2-4) instruction is sent to the old program, a software support function of the platform activates a conversion program (80). The conversion program renders the state information of the old program as converted state information which is usable by the new program.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 13, 2000Publication date: June 13, 2002Inventors: Arne Lundback, Rolf Eriksson, Staffan Larsson, Mats Nilsson
