  • Patent number: 6042801
Abstract: The present invention concerns a method for baking or calcination of shaped carbon bodies in a furnace and a packing material for use in the same. In accordance with the method, carbon bodies are burned in a furnace chamber, supported or surrounded by a packing material which is formed from a mixture of a material containing carbon and particles of a material containing silicon oxide such as crushed chamotte stone. In accordance with the method, the baking of the carbon bodies will take place at a greater temperature gradient across the packing joint than previously, which results in greater tar combustion and better utilisation of the energy in the degasified components. Furthermore, a packing material is described that contains a component containing carbon and that also contains particles containing silicon oxide in a homogeneous mixture with the component containing carbon.

  • Patent number: 5759027
Abstract: A ring section furnace for the calcination of carbon bodies, has a number of chambers (K1-Kn) in which the carbon bodies are placed when performing the calcination process. During the calcination process, a part of the furnace comprising a minor number of chambers is divided into a preheating zone (K3-K2), a combustion zone (K7-K14), and a cooling zone (K8-K10) that together in a successive manner, are advanced relative to the furnace. Flue gases formed under the process are sucked out from the first chamber (K2) in the preheating zone through a pipe connection to a common ring duct (10). To eliminate the entrance of false air from the first chamber (K1) adjacent the preheating zone, a counterpressure fan (17) is arranged in connection with the first chamber (K1).

  • Patent number: 5709160
Abstract: An apparatus for the combustion of a suspension of a combustible liquid and combustible solids in particle shape, for instance carbon particles, includes a tank, a burner unit and a pipe which is connected to the burner unit and which protrudes into the tank where it is connected to a pump system. The pump system includes an eddy current pump with a branched outlet, where one of the outlet branches is connected to the pipe, while the other branch or branches is formed as a nozzle or a jet with its outlet directed into the tank, thus serving to stir the suspension in the tank.
