  • Publication number: 20080284600
Abstract: A Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system for managing and identifying locations for an RFID reader is disclosed. An expected location of a fixed radio frequency identification (RFID) reader is determined. A first signal is transmitted from the reader to a first RFID tag to determine whether the reader is at the expected location. The first tag is a fiducial RFID tag fixed at a first location. In one aspect, the reader receives a first response to the first signal from the first tag. The first response identifies the first location of the first tag. The first location is compared to the expected location. If the first location and the expected location are different, an alarm is triggered.

  • Patent number: 5937054
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, a selected local carrier may be operated by receiving a first signal and initializing provision of a second signal to a residential communications device in response to the first signal. More specifically, the first signal is, e.g., indicative of a particular local carrier (e.g., a first local carrier or a second local carrier) being chosen as the selected local carrier from a group of local carriers. The group of local carriers comprises the first local carrier and the second local carrier. Illustratively, the second signal is a dialtone signal, the first local carrier is a local exchange provider and the second local carrier is an interactive television provider. Various devices capable of choosing the selected local carrier are also disclosed. Advantageously, the method provides consumers with a choice of local access carriers.

  • Patent number: 5805680
Abstract: A "breakout" of telecommunications toll calls on a per-station basis is provided to households or other telecommunications endpoints which have subscribed to only a single analog telephone line. Subscribers wishing to avail themselves of such "station set billing" will have purchased and installed telephone stations sets which are adapted to transmit to the telecommunications service provider, during a call, e.g., at the start thereof, a signal carrying a code which identifies that station set. The subscriber, additionally, will have registered the station set's code, which may be marked on the bottom of the instrument, with the telecommunications service provider. Thus the service provider is able to identify which station set within the household a call is being made from or to which a collect call is being made.

  • Patent number: 4023258
Abstract: A new method of semiconductor diode processing is described in which the resulting diode chips have an ohmic contact on four side faces of the chip. This is accomplished by cutting notches in the back side of a semiconductor slice before processing and by breaking the slice along the notches after fabricating the diodes on the front side of the slice. The new diode chip has a smaller series resistance than conventional millimeter-wave structures, and it can be readily bonded or soldered to millimeter-wave thin film circuits.
