  • Patent number: 7146269
Abstract: Defective actuators in an internal combustion engine with at least one cylinder are detected. A mean value, in particular the arithmetic mean value, determines a measurement variable of all the actuators of a given type present on the cylinders. The measurement variable depends on at least one parameter. In a further step, a deviation is formed which is independent of the parameter. This ensures that the deviation across the entire parameter range remains constant. In a further step, the limit values, in particular the upper and lower limit values, are formed, the limit values being dependent on the deviation and on the mean value formed above. If an individual value of the measurement variable exceeds one of the two limit values, the method according to the invention detects this actuator as faulty and/or defective.

  • Patent number: 6885131
Abstract: The invention relates to the return stroke between an actuator and an element. In order to displace the element the actuator (A) is impinged upon by a control voltage (ANS). The control voltage (ANS) is selected in such a manner that it is dependent on the size of return stroke in order to compensate the alteration in the return stroke.

  • Patent number: 6868833
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for determining the injection time of the injection system of an internal combustion engine, comprising the following steps: detecting a crankshaft signal that indicates the relative position of the crankshaft, determining the injection time on the basis of said crankshaft signal, detecting the phase angle of the crankshaft, synchronizing the calculated injection time on the basis of the phase position of the crankshaft, said phase position of the crankshaft being determined on the basis of the crankshaft signal.

  • Patent number: 6799454
Abstract: For the checking of an exhaust gas recycling valve, the control signal for the exhaust gas return valve is returned from a defined value to zero, in the idle state of the internal combustion engine while the vehicle is at a standstill and the reaction of the signal (MAF) from an airflow detector in the inlet tract is evaluated. Should the signal not exceed a given threshold value (MAE SWD), within a first time period (T2), then a faulty dynamic is assigned to the exhaust recycling valve. Should the signal not exceed a second given threshold value (MAF SWS), within a second time period (T3), then it is determined that the exhaust recycling valve can not be completely shut.

  • Patent number: 6092510
Abstract: A method for controlling an injection of fuel in an internal combustion engine in which steady-state optimum injection parameters, in particular the start-of-injection angle, is corrected for non-steady-state operating phases. The correction is carried out by a transmission element to which the driver's request is fed as an input and correction parameters are determined therefrom. Using the correction parameters, fuel injection parameters obtained from a characteristic diagram that is optimum for steady-state operating conditions are corrected. In this manner, the behavior of the internal combustion engine is improved for non-steady-state operating phases.

  • Patent number: 6055961
Abstract: A method for monitoring a fuel pressure uses a trigger value or components of the trigger value, with which a pressure adjusting member is triggered. A pressure drop is detected if the trigger value or components thereof deviate from a value typical for that operating point.

  • Patent number: 5950598
Abstract: Exact metering of the fuel to be injected into the cylinder of an internal combustion engine takes into account the pressure in a high-pressure common rail, the required injection mass of fuel, and a compression prevailing in the respective cylinder at an injection onset.

  • Patent number: 5934256
Abstract: A method for detecting irregular combustion processes in a multicylinder diesel internal combustion engine includes detecting incorrect injections and non-injections by recording combustion noise in individual cylinders through the use of one or more structure-borne noise sensors. Subsequently, a check is performed as to whether or not sensor signals exceed threshold values individual to each cylinder within or outside fixed measurement windows.

  • Patent number: 5921135
Abstract: A method and a circuit configuration for gear detection in a motor vehicle transmission detect a signal corresponding to an input rpm and a signal corresponding to an output rpm of the transmission. A quotient of the output rpm to the input rpm is formed. A gear that has been engaged is detected from this quotient and from a known gear ratio of the transmission. A variation over time of the ratio of the output rpm to the input rpm of the transmission is ascertained and compared with a limit value. If the limit value is exceeded, a determination is made that no gear has been engaged.

  • Patent number: 5884602
Abstract: A process for suppressing torque jumps during operation of an internal combustion engine prevents torque jumps when switching pilot injection (pre-injection) on and off in a diesel internal combustion engine by forming a difference between a predetermined total quantity of fuel to be injected and a pilot quantity to be injected by a pilot injector and acting upon the difference with a correction factor that produces torque balancing. A difference quantity which is corrected in this manner represents a main injection quantity.

  • Patent number: 5791319
Abstract: A method for controlling an exhaust gas recirculation device in an internal combustion engine includes calculating an actual value of an exhaust gas recirculation rate from a current air flow rate measured by an air flow rate meter and a theoretical air flow rate that would result without exhaust gas recirculation. A difference is formed from a desired value stored as a function of load and from the actual value for the exhaust gas recirculation rate. The difference is supplied to a controller which triggers an exhaust gas recirculation valve in such a way that a desired value of the exhaust gas recirculation rate is established.
