Abstract: A process for the preparation of recording materials for inkjet printers by applying aqueous coating compositions to one or both sides of a sheet of paper which has been treated with size, where the coating compositions contain from 20 to 200 g/l of starch and from 1 to 50 g/l of a copolymer which is obtainable by emulsion copolymerization of 100 parts by weight of a monomer mixture comprising(a) from 10 to 65 parts by weight of styrene, .alpha.-methylstyrene, acrylonitrile and/or methacrylonitrile,(b) from 30 to 85 parts by weight of acrylic and/or methacrylic esters of alcohols having 1 to 18 carbon atoms,(c) from 5 to 25 parts by weight of monomers containing tertiary and/or quaternary amino groups, and(d) from 0 to 20 parts by weight of other monoethylenically unsaturated monomersin an aqueous medium in the presence of from 12 to 300% by weight, based on the monomers, of at least one natural or synthetic protective colloid.

Abstract: Paper size mixtures which are prepared by mixing an aqueous suspension of a digested cationic starch with a finely divided, aqueous polymer dispersion which is the paper size and emulsifying the C.sub.14 -C.sub.22 -alkyldiketene in this mixture at not less than 70.degree. C. are used for engine and surface sizing of the paper.

Abstract: Stabilized aqueous C.sub.14 -C.sub.22 -alkyldiketene emulsions containing, as essential components:(a) from 10 to 60% w/w of at least one C.sub.14 -C.sub.22 -alkyldiketene,(b) from 1 to 10% w/w of at least one protective colloid and(c) from 0.1 to 20% w/w of at least one ester of formula I ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each denote C.sub.14 -C.sub.22 -alkyl, R.sup.1 differing in this case from R.sup.2 by at least 4 carbon atoms in the alkyl chain, and/or the same or different C.sub.14 -C.sub.22 -alkenyl groups, or at least one ester of the formula R.sup.3 --O--CO--O--R.sup.4 (II), in which R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are alkyl or alkenyl radicals of from 2 to 22 carbon atoms or at least one urethane of formula III ##STR2## in which R.sup.5, R.sup.6 and R.sup.7 are the same or different alkyl or alkenyl radicals of from 2 to 22 carbon atoms and one of the substituents R.sup.5, R.sup.6 and R.sup.

Abstract: In antifoams based on oil-in-water emulsions, the oil phase of the emulsions contains(a) a C.sub.12 -C.sub.26 -alcohol, a distillation residue which is obtainable in the preparation of alcohols having a relatively large number of carbon atoms by the oxo process or by the Ziegler process and which may furthermore be oxyalkylated and/or(b) a fatty acid ester of a C.sub.12 -C.sub.22 -carboxylic acid with a monohydric to trihydric C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 -alcohol and, if required,(c) a hydrocarbon having a boiling point above 200.degree. C. or a fatty acid of 12 to 22 carbon atoms,accounts for from 5 to 50% by weight of the emulsion and has a mean particle size of less than 25 .mu.m, and from 5 to 50% by weight of components (a) and (b) of the oil phase are replaced by(d) one or more compounds which melt at above 70.degree.
