  • Patent number: 5760128
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the production of multi-layer finishes in which the base coating contains crosslinked polymer microparticles which are obtainable by(A) reacting a polyester-polyol or a mixture of polyester-polyols with a polyisocyanate or with a mixture of polyisocyanates and(B) when at least 25% of the NCO groups have reacted, dispersing the resulting reaction mixture in water.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 27, 1993
Date of Patent: June 2, 1998
    Assignees: BASF Lacke, Farben, AG
Inventors: Wolfgang Baltus, Jan Berg, Arnold Dobbelstein, deceased
  • Patent number: 5601880
Abstract: The invention relates to basecoats for the production of paint systems of the basecoat-clearcoat type, which comprise a water-thinnable polyacrylate resin obtainable by polymerizing in a first stage in an organic solvent ethylenically unsaturated monomers free from carboxyl groups and, after at least 80% by weight of these monomers have reacted, polymerizing in a second stage monomers containing carboxyl groups and neutralizing the polyacrylate resin obtained in this way.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 5, 1994
Date of Patent: February 11, 1997
Assignee: BASF Lacke & Farben, AG
Inventors: Stephan Schwarte, Arnold Dobbelstein, deceased, Walter Lassmann, Susanne Piontek, J urgen Niemann, Klaus Eikelmann, Ulrich Poth
  • Patent number: 5502101
Abstract: The invention relates to basecoats for the production of finishes of the basecoat/clearcoat type which comprise a water-thinnable polyacrylate resin which can be obtained by polymerizing, either successively or in part amounts, monomers containing carboxyl groups and monomers free from carboxyl groups in an organic solvent to form a polyacrylate resin which is neutralized, at least partially, and dispersed in water.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 30, 1992
Date of Patent: March 26, 1996
Assignee: BASF Lacke + Farben, AG
Inventors: Stephan Schwarte, Arnold Dobbelstein, deceased, Ju/ rgen Niemann, Walter Lassmann, Susanne Piontek, Ulrich Poth, Klaus Eikelmann
  • Patent number: 5370910
Abstract: The invention relates to a basecoat/clearcoat process in which the basecoat composition used contains as a film former a polyurethane resin which can be prepared by preparing an intermediate from(A) a mixture obtained from 10 to 90 mol % of linear polyether diols and 90 to 10 mol % of polyester diols,(B) diisocyanates,(C) compounds which contain two groups reactive toward isocyanate groups, at least some of these compounds having at least one group capable of forming anions, and the free isocyanate groups of the said intermediate are then reacted with(D) polyols containing at least three hydroxyl groups, and the reaction product obtained in this manner is transferred into an aqueous base, whereina) the polyester diol is prepared from diols and an acid component which consists of 60 to 100 % by weight of aliphatic dicarboxylic acids of more than 18 carbon atoms and of 40 to 0 % by weight of aliphatic dicarboxylic acids of 2 to 18 carbon atoms,b) the equivalent ratio of the NCO groups to the total of the OH gro

Inventors: Hans-Dieter Hille, Stefan C. Wieditz, Arnold Dobbelstein, deceased, Horst Muller
  • Patent number: 5256453
Abstract: A process for the production of a multi-layer paint coating in which base paints are employed which contain 5 to 20% by weight of crosslinked polymer microparticles, 2 to 15% by weight of a cellulose ester and 5 to 20% by weight of an epoxidized fatty acid ester, the weight percentages relating to the total content of nonvolatile constituents, excluding pigments and inorganic fillers, and the cellulose ester being so selected that a solution of 15 parts by weight of the cellulose ester in 85 parts by weight of a 9:1 mixture of acetone and ethanol at 23.degree. C. has a viscosity of 200 to 600 mPa.s.
