Patent number: 11774141Abstract: This disclosure is related to devices, systems, and techniques for controlling a temperature of water contained by a water tank. A controller includes a user interface configured to receive one or more user inputs indicative of a request to set a control parameter of the controller and communication circuitry configured to receive, from a user device, an electronic signal. Additionally, the controller includes processing circuitry configured to identify, from the electronic signal, one or more first data packets that include a request to disable an ability to change, based on the one or more user inputs received by the user interface, the control parameter of the controller and in response to receiving the one or more first data packets, disable the ability to change the control parameter of the controller.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 2022Date of Patent: October 3, 2023Assignee: Ademco Inc.Inventors: Brian Moy, Christopher R. Jones, Michael Crites, Arnold Kalla

Patent number: 10480805Abstract: A surge protection circuit for an electronic device such as an HVAC controller. In one example, the surge protection circuit may include a first voltage clamp, a second voltage clamp, a resistor, and an output port. The first voltage clamp may provide a first clamping voltage between a power input terminal and a common terminal. The second voltage clamp may provide a second clamping voltage that is less than the first clamping voltage. The resistor may be connected in series with the second voltage clamp, and the series connected resistor and second voltage clamp may be connected in parallel with the first voltage clamp. As such, a surge current at the power input terminal may be split between the first voltage clamp and the second voltage clamp. The amount of surge current that is provided to the second voltage clamp may be set by the value of the resistor.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2017Date of Patent: November 19, 2019Assignee: Ademco Inc.Inventors: David Mulhouse, Mohammad Aljabari, Tracy Lentz, Petr Adamik, Tarik Khoury, Steven J. Patent number: 10234161Abstract: An electronic assembly may have a display, a display holder, and a printed circuit board (PCB). The display may have a front side for viewing the display, a back side, and side walls extending between the front side and the back side. The display holder may have a recess for receiving at least part of the display, where the display holder may extend adjacent part of the front side of the display and adjacent at least part of the side walls of the display. The PCB may be secured relative to the display holder and adjacent the back side of the display. The PCB may be in operative communication with the display. In some cases, a spacer may be situated between the back side of the display and the PCB.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2017Date of Patent: March 19, 2019Assignee: Ademco Inc.Inventors: Petr Adamik, Tarik Khoury, Steven J. Patent number: 10024568Abstract: Lock boxes may be used to protect a building controller from tampering. In some cases, a lock box may include a back plate that is configured to be mounted to a wall or a junction box and a front cover that may be secured to the back plate and locked in place. In some cases, the back plate may be configured to help secure a building controller thereto. In some cases, the back plate may be configured to secure a wall mountable connector to which the building controller may be secured. In some instances, the back plate may include mounting features that can engage corresponding mounting features of the wall mountable connector in order to secure the wall mountable connector to the back plate of the lock box.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2017Date of Patent: July 17, 2018Assignee: Honeywell International Inc.Inventors: Travis Read, Brian Moy, David Emmons, Tarik Khoury, Arnold Kalla

Patent number: 9528720Abstract: An HVAC Controller including a printed circuit board (PCB) and a display sub-assembly. The display sub-assembly may include a frame, a display, and a light guide. The frame may be secured relative to the PCB and may have a front side facing away from the PCB and a back side facing toward the PCB. The frame may include one or more side walls that may extend between the front side and the back side, where the side walls may define a space. The display and the light guide may be positioned at least partially within the space and the light guide may be positioned between the display and the PCB. The frame may have one or more back stop features and one or more front stop features that stop the light guide and the display from sliding out of the back side and front side of the frame, respectively.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2014Date of Patent: December 27, 2016Assignee: Honeywell International Inc.Inventors: Josef Novotny, Arnold Kalla, Tomas Losak, Reed Bisson, Eugene J.
