Patent number: 5076480Abstract: Variable pitch feed of fasteners by a unitary, single toothed feed pawl. In a first embodiment, back-up of the fasteners is prevented using a downwardly pointed detent tooth which bits into a secondary runner bar of the fastener assemblage, preferably at a point somewhat beyond the fastener ejection axis. In a second embodiment, the secondary runner bar includes a series of lands spaced at the same pitch as the fasteners, and the detent comprises a pin biased toward the runner bar to intermittently engage the lands. Back-up of the fastener assemblage is prevented by the detent, and individual fasteners are securely positioned for ejection.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 1990Date of Patent: December 31, 1991Assignee: Dennison Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Arnold R. Patent number: 5074452Abstract: A tag attaching gun in which an ejector rod is advanced by a trigger operated lever to sever an individual fastener from a fastener assemblage and dispense the severed fastener through a hollow slotted needle. This apparatus incorporates a unitary, single-tooth feed member for advancing the fastener assemblage to bring the forwardmost fastener in line with the needle. Such feed member comprises a reciprocably mounted body integral with a U-shaped resilient finger terminating in a feed tooth. The feed member together with its resilient feed finger moves linearly in order to engage and advance the fastener assemblage, while the finger flexes during a return motion in order to clear a succeeding fastener in the assemblage.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1990Date of Patent: December 24, 1991Assignee: Dennison Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Arnold R. Patent number: 5033664Abstract: An improved system for attaching price tags to garments and other joining applications, in which individual fasteners are severed from fastener stock having a continuous, elongated plastic side member joined to a plurality of space-apart filaments. The fastener stock is advanced to a transfer site along a feed axis which is parallel to and proximate the axis of the needle through which severed fasteners are dispensed. A knife is mounted on a support slide which is slideable transversely to the feed axis, such support slide being urged toward the feed axis to cause the knife to sever an individual fastener from the fastener stock. A transfer slide engages a portion of the side member which becomes a T-bar of the severed fastener, and urges it toward the needle axis. The transfer slide is yieldably coupled to the support slide to permit the transfer slide to lag behind the knife until severing occurs.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1989Date of Patent: July 23, 1991Assignee: Dennison Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Arnold R. Bone, Donald L. Bourque

Patent number: 4627562Abstract: A bench mount for holding and operating trigger actuated devices. The mount aligns the device for convenient use. An air cylinder is attached to the mount and contains a piston and shaft. A connecting rod having a trigger intercepting bar at its distal end is coupled to the shaft to draw in the trigger when pressurized air is introduced to the cylinder. A pneumatic controller assembly is operable to reversibly interrupt air flow to the cylinder. A safety shield is attached to the mount to remain in protecting conformity with the aimed end of the device as the device is aligned.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1984Date of Patent: December 9, 1986Assignee: Dennison Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Arnold R. Patent number: 4602418Abstract: A tool for tensioning and severing elongate objects such as cable ties. The tool includes an angular frame having an extended nose, with a pivotally mounted lever. The lever is forwardly biased by a tension assembly including a tension link and expansion spring, while the cable tie is engaged between a flange and rotatable pawl at the forward end of the tension link. The nosing of the tool includes parallel blades having a user-adjustable separation, for severing cable ties of a wide range of strap thicknesses. The user tensions a cable tie by squeezing the lever toward a grip portion of the frame which is maintained stationary, and may sever the tie after tensioning using a simple twisting motion. The tool is simple, durable, and easy to operate, and is effective for tensioning objects within confined spaces.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 1982Date of Patent: July 29, 1986Assignee: Dennison Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Arnold R. Bone, Terence J. Jones

Patent number: 4593844Abstract: Dispensing of fasteners by a device which receives an assemblage of the fasteners and is able to expel them individually through, for example, a slotted hollow needle. The dispensed fasteners can be used generally in the attachment of items to one another and, in particular, for the labeling of textile goods and the like with information bearing tags. The device includes a trigger operated feed mechanism and a simultaneously operable expulsion mechanism. Both mechanisms are controlled by the tip of a lever which is proportioned and disposed in the device to execute linear motion. The feed mechanism is disengageable from the remainder of the device to permit clearance of the inserted assemblage or the removal of jams. The feed mechanism additionally is operated by a planar pawl having a tooth that extends into contact with indentations on the periphery of a feed wheel.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1983Date of Patent: June 10, 1986Assignee: Dennison Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Arnold R. Bone

Patent number: 4192358Abstract: An improved tool for the installation of objects such as cable tie fasteners, including a device for penumatically powering the tool's operation. An air cylinder appended to the tool contains a piston and rod assembly which is coupled to machinery within the tool for tensioning and severing the object to be installed. The piston and rod assembly is actuated by the movement of a valve within the cylinder, which valve is in turn linked to the tool's trigger. Piston and valve springs restore the piston and rod assembly and the valve to their original positions upon release of the trigger.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 1978Date of Patent: March 11, 1980Assignee: Dennison Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Arnold R.
