  • Patent number: 4593576
Abstract: An internally and externally threaded double nut is screwed onto the threaded shaft of a stepper motor. The nut is restrained from rotational motion thereby limiting it to translation along the shaft axis. An internally threaded output sleeve is screwed onto the external thread of the double threaded nut. The pitch of the nut internal thread is smaller than that of the external thread so that rotary motion reduction occurs at the output sleeve. A ball bearing is positioned in contacting support between the sleeve and the shaft thereby minimizing output sleeve tolerance accumulations of eccentricity and axial positioning.

  • Patent number: 4536064
Abstract: In a clear viewing screen of the kind comprising a fixed screen element; a disk-like screen element supported for rotation at the outside of the window; a motor for driving the rotatable disk-like screen element supported at the inside of the fixed screen element; the motor to coupled the rotatable disk-like screen element, the motor mounted at the periphery of said rotatable disk-like screen element, and a magnetic coupling having first and second coupling halves is provided, one coupling half coupled to the motor, and the other coupling half coupled to the rotatable disk-like screen element, the coupling members disposed opposite each other on opposite sides of the fixed screen element so that coupling can take place without making a hole in the fixed screen element.

  • Patent number: 4493997
Abstract: A shaft state sensor includes a rotating member having a miniaturized lamp mounted thereto. A rotary transformer is connected to the lamp and supplies it with power. A number of optic fibers are arranged in a circular configuration on a stationary member of the sensor. The center of the circular configuration is coaxial with the shaft of the rotating member. As the shaft turns, the lamp becomes sequentially aligned with each of the fibers thereby indicating changes in shaft position. The fibers are connected to an optical coupler which is in turn connected to an optical density discriminator for detecting when the light passing through a particular optic fiber exceeds the required threshold level. The output from the discriminator is optical and may travel over substantial cable distances to a computer location without the introduction of electrical noise so that shaft position or velocity may be computed.

  • Patent number: 4461051
Abstract: During assembly of a motor, a stator winding is installed in a jig in preparation of cleaning. A brush is moved axially through the central space of the winding. The shaft of the brush is equipped with fluid jets which direct solvent against the winding as it is being brushed. Dislodging of foreign matter from the winding is enhanced by pumping the solvent through the brush shaft in a pulsating manner.

  • Patent number: 4452342
Abstract: A braking mechanism for a rotating shaft includes a corrugated wheel keyed to the shaft. A polyurethane pad mounted on a spring-biased plunger contacts the wheel corrugations creating non-permanent mating formations in the pad. Thus, upon contact between the two, the wheel and pad mesh thereby preventing wheel rotation until the pad is withdrawn.

  • Patent number: 4371803
Abstract: A commutator brush holder mounts a pair of tension band springs in quadrature relation. Both springs contact the brush end remote from the commutator and urge the brush into contact with the commutator, with constant force. The quadrature springs promote full and intimate contact between the brush and commutator, thereby minimizing brush bounce and tilt and resultant transient signal generation.
