  • Patent number: 4824589
Abstract: A rust converting composition comprises ascorbic acid, lignin sulfonate, and a water insoluble polymer, such as polyvinylpyrrolidone, and optionally a thickener. The invention further provides a method for removing rust from rusted metal surfaces by applying the composition, allowing the composition to remain on the rusted metal surface until substantially all of the rust is converted to a water soluble form, and removing the composition from the metal surface by washing with water.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 4, 1986
Date of Patent: April 25, 1989
    Assignee: Pennzoil Products Company
Inventors: Arpad M. Magyar, Darrell W. Patton, Paul J. DesLauriers
  • Patent number: 4670171
Abstract: Detergent compositions for use in cleaning automotive surfaces, particularly whitewall tires, vinyl tops, and upholstery fabric material, comprise a sequestering agent, a wetting agent, a surfactant, a penetrant, a foam booster, and optionaly a perfume and/or coloring agent in an aqueous carrier. The composition is preferably placed in brush top aerosol cans for use as a cleaner.

  • Patent number: 4613446
Abstract: Gelled detergent compositions are contained in cleaning devices such as plastic mesh pads and sponges, which gelled detergent compositions comprise water, an alkali metal hydroxide, an alkali metal phosphate, a wetting agent, a fatty acid which reacts with the alkali metal hydroxide to form a soap, a chelating agent, a surfactant, and optionally colorant and odorant components.

  • Patent number: 4609406
Abstract: A rust conversion composition comprises the reaction product of a polyhydroxybenzoic acid and a alkane polyol, in admixture with a film forming polymer, and water. The composition is applied to rusted, iron-containing surface, and allowed to dry to form a hard, moisture and corrosion resistant film. Alternatively, the film may be removed to produce an iron-containing surface free of rust.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 5, 1984
Date of Patent: September 2, 1986
    Assignee: Pennzoil Company

  • Patent number: 4501825
Abstract: A novel tire sealant and inflator composition comprising a resin, a latex sealant, alkylene glycol, fibers, an alkanolamine, a foaming agent, and water. The composition is packaged in aerosol cans with a chlorofluorocarbon propellant/inflator and used to seal and inflate punctured tires. The composition is applied to the punctured tire through the valve stem, and acts to seal the puncture and inflate the tire sufficiently to support the weight of the car.
