  • Publication number: 20130332130
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of preparing aqueous fluids for use in a hydrocarbon well. The method includes analyzing a water sample to produce a profile including at least one analyte concentration of the water sample, inputting at least a portion of the profile into a formulation database, wherein the formulation database generates an fluid model including at least one recommendation for the fluid composition of the aqueous fluid for use in the hydrocarbon well.

  • Publication number: 20070124080
Abstract: For use in estimating or predicting bioaccumulation of a chemical analyte, even a surfactant, log Pow values for the analyte may be determined by calculating the log of the ratio of the concentrations of the analyte in n-octanol and in water, equilibrated using a slow-stir method. In this method, samples of the analyte are prepared and stirred in n-octanol and water (or other largely immiscible solvents) at a rate sufficiently low to avoid emulsions over time at a constant temperature. After stirring, the n-octanol layer and the water layer are sampled and the quantity of analyte in each measured.

  • Publication number: 20060054321
Abstract: Cement compositions including environmentally compatible defoamers and methods of using such cement compositions are provided herein. An example of a method is a method of cementing in a subterranean formation. Another example of a method is a method of reducing foam generation in a cement composition. An example of a composition is a cement composition including water, hydraulic cement, and a defoamer. Another example of a composition is a defoamer.

  • Patent number: H2232
Abstract: Methods comprising: providing a test substance, providing two solvents that are substantially immiscible, introducing a known amount of the test substance and known amounts of the two solvents into a single vessel to create a pre-equilibrium sample, adjusting the concentration of the test substance in the pre-equilibrium sample so that the concentration of the test substance is below the critical micelle concentration of both solvents if the concentration of the test substance is not already below the critical micelle concentration, allowing the test substance to equilibrate between the two solvents over time at a substantially constant temperature, determining the equilibrium concentration of the test substance in each of the solvents, and calculating the partition coefficient.
