  • Publication number: 20090282316
Abstract: Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) decoder circuitry in which memory resources are realized as single-port memory. The decoder circuitry includes a single port memory for storing log-likelihood ratio (LLR) estimates of input node data states for individual rows of a parity check matrix. The decoder circuitry also includes multiple instances of single-port column sum memories, which store updated LLR estimates for each input node. In each case, the memory resources include logic circuitry that executes at least one write cycle and one read cycle to the memory within each decoder cycle. Because the decoder cycle time is much longer than the necessary memory cycle time, particularly in LDPC decoding, data can be written to and read from single-port memory resources in ample time for the decoding operation.

  • Patent number: 6968010
Abstract: A method for efficient low power motion estimation of a digital video image is provided in which processing requirements are reduced based upon the content being processed. The method performs motion estimation of a current video image using a search window of a previous video image. The method may include forming mean pyramids of a reference macroblock and the search area and a full search at a lowest resolution. A number of candidate motion vectors (CMVs) propagated to lower levels may be dependent on a quantized average deviation estimate (QADE) of a current macroblock and the maximum distortion band obtained during training for that QADE value at that particular level. Training over a sequence may be triggered at the beginning of every sequence. This training technique may be used to determine the value of the maximum distortion band for all QADEs of the macroblocks occurring over the training frames.

  • Patent number: 6859343
Abstract: An enchance recording head design provides conduction and mechanical restraint control in order to minimize the pole tip protrusion and the head temperature resulting from the thermal heating of the magnetic recording head during operation. In one embodiment, the recording head includes a hybrid diffuser formed within an insulation layer, at a predetermined distance from the head write section. The hybrid diffuser is comprised of a thermal conduction layer with high thermal conductivity, such as gold or copper, and a mechanical restraint layer having near zero CTE, such as a 60-80% face-centered-cubic NiFe (Invar) material. The hybrid diffuser is recessed from the ABS to prevent the delamination of the hybrid diffuser due to the otherwise displacement incompatibility between the inner insulating layer and the hybrid diffuser at the ABS.
