  • Publication number: 20240137843
Abstract: A method and system for computing the geolocation of UEs in a communication system by using LEO satellites. The satellites in this method and system combine only the signals that are transmitted by the communicating endpoints with the information of time of arrival and ephemeris data. A minimum of three or four satellites, based on the method used for computing the geolocation, are required to receive and append the signals transmitted by a UE. An access server of an LBS provider uses the information in the signals to compute the geolocation coordinates of UEs of its client users. Similarly, a UE of a client can also compute the geolocation coordinates of an access server of an LBS provider; as a consequence, both can authenticate each other using a location-based access control method. As a result, both UE and access server can directly authenticate each other using a suitable immutable factor.

  • Publication number: 20230403555
Abstract: System and methods for authenticating a UE, using one of two novel immutable factors, for granting access to premium resources. One immutable factor includes a public ID of the UE and its true geolocation, while the other consists of the SDID of UE and its true geolocation. For the public ID based system, a non-terrestrial communication network verifies geolocation of an LBS provider by comparing geolocation with the publicly known geolocation of the LBS provider After receiving true geolocation coordinates, LBS provider grants or denies UE's resource access request by comparing geolocation of UE with the geolocation(s) retrieved from the credential database which contains a list of preauthorized geolocation(s) for the legitimate users of a UE. For the SDID based system, an authentication system verifies SDID of both the requesting UE and LBS provider by comparing transmitted SDID with the SDID retrieved from an SDID database.

  • Publication number: 20230379715
Abstract: A method and system for detecting a malicious change in the positioning signal of a User Equipment (UE), by using the time difference of arrival (TDOA) method in a communication system that uses, for example, a low earth orbiting satellites (LEOs) based non-terrestrial network (NTN). A position comparator module is incorporated in a position computation entity that compares the geolocation of a UE, computed by using the transmitted time Ttrans in the positioning signal, with the geolocation computed by the TDOA method, and if the difference is above a threshold value, an alert is generated. Using this system a and method prevents a UE from faking its own geolocation to other UEs and communication devices in the communication system by more than few hundred of meters. As a result, the Location Based Services (LBS) can be offered reliably to legitimate users only.

  • Publication number: 20230305096
Abstract: A secure system and method for finding geolocation coordinates of a UE using members of a non-terrestrial network includes a secure positioning enclave that generates, a clock signal that is not processed through the firmware of the UE. To ensure security and integrity of the clock signal, it is directly transmitted as a waveform from a UE to a trusted communication node in the communication network. The trusted communication node in the NTN can compute the time of flight by doing the time delay analysis of the clock signal waveform by comparing it with the waveform generated by its own secure positioning enclave.

  • Publication number: 20230213665
Abstract: A method and system for finding the true geolocation coordinates of User Equipment (UE) using a communication network and system based on Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN). The system uses precision clock signals of a UE and satellites in an NTN. Using the time of arrival method disclosed in the invention, a trusted satellite can compute the location of a UE by processing positioning signals. Consequently, satellites accurately compute the true location of UE and store it on satellites in the space and/or database server connected with the ground station. The invention enables accurate delivery of shipments in a logistic network.
