  • Publication number: 20030029138
Abstract: A flexible plastic fitment for providing spouts for pouches formed of sheet material. The fitment includes a pair of opposed side walls each having a center portion formed from diametrically opposed segments of a common cylinder and straight segments that blend respectively into the cylindrical segments on opposite sides of the common cylinder. The side walls are joined together at both ends thereof to form a canoe shape. A cover, which provides the only support for the side walls joins the top edges of the canoe shape and extends at both ends of the canoe shape between the cylindrical segments and the joined ends. A thin fin extends from each end of the joined side walls. A method of and apparatus for attaching the fitment by distending the side walls outwardly while urging the sheet material toward the side walls is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20020157351
Abstract: A method is disclosed for forming reclosable packages at a form, fill and seal (FFS) apparatus by advancing a film of package making material longitudinally to form a tube while guiding opposite longitudinal edges of the film into a fin. A zipper having interlocking members and an attached flange is fed into the fin by capturing external surfaces of the interlocking members within a first guide member positioned adjacent to said fin and feeding the flanges along opposite sides of a second guide member positioned within said fin. An apparatus for performing the method is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6317939
Abstract: A zipper assembly is provided having first and second interlocking members respectively on first and second base strips. A first connect strip is secured to the first base strip and a second connect strip is secured to the second base strip. An extension of the second connect strip extends beyond the first connect strip when the interlocking members are engaged and a peel-sealable material is provided on the extension. A bag incorporating the zipper has the first connect strip attached to a first bag wall, the second connect strip attached to an opposite bag wall and the peels sealable material sealed to the first bag wall. A slider may be provided about the interlocking members.

  • Patent number: 6308498
Abstract: A zipper strip for a reclosable package having a transverse zipper is provided. The zipper strip comprises a male interlocking profile and a female interlocking profile. Each profile includes an interlocking member and an integral web which defines a leading flange. The leading flanges are sealed to thermoplastic film material which is used to make the reclosable packages and to each other. A perforation extends along the length of the zipper strip so that the profiles can be readily separated.

  • Patent number: 6185907
Abstract: In a horizontal form-fill-and-seal (FFS) machine, a continuous length of packaging film is folded lengthwise over the consumer products to be packaged. The lateral edges of the packaging film are separately and independently aligned with one another by edge sensing and control devices. A zipper is fed between the aligned lateral edges of the packaging film. The lateral edges are sealed to one another, and the zipper sealed to the folded packaging film, by a pair of sealing sections, each of which includes a pair of parallel sealing devices. Side seals are produced by conventional means, which also separate completed packages from one another.
