  • Patent number: 4243127
Abstract: A motor drives a pump to provide fluid under pressure in a closed hydraulic circuit through a pilot valve to a change speed clutch valve and a directional valve of a multi-speed transmission for an electrically powered vehicle, such as a mine haulage vehicle. The multi-speed transmission is connected by an output shaft to the driven wheels of the vehicle. A braking force is applied to the driven wheels by a hydraulically operated service brake to effect routine stopping of the vehicle. Under emergency conditions an emergency brake applies a braking force to the driven wheels by operation of a panic bar positioned in the operator's compartment. A brake valve connected to the panic bar maintains a preselected fluid pressure in the hydraulic circuit of the emergency brake to retain the brake in a released position. The hydraulic circuit is interlocked through the pilot valve to the transmission clutch and direction valves.

  • Patent number: 4192405
Abstract: A brake mechanism is mounted on a vehicle and includes a housing having a slot for receiving a rotatable disc to be braked. The upper portion of the housing includes a chamber for receiving pressurized fluid from a source. A spring actuated piston is slidably and sealingly disposed within the chamber. A removable spring assembly is positioned forwardly of the actuating piston and exerts a preselected spring force thereon. When the fluid pressure acting against the piston is less than the spring force applied to the piston, the piston moves axially in the chamber and a rod portion thereof contacts a lever that is pivotally mounted to the housing. The lever pivots on the housing to axially displace a brake applicator piston that is movably positioned in the housing adjacent to the rotatable disc. A plurality of braking pads are secured to the end portion of the applicator piston and additional braking pads are secured to the brake housing opposite the disc.

  • Patent number: 4074784
Abstract: The haulage vehicle has a frame member with separate front and rear sections that are connected to each other by universal means and are free to articulate in a plurality of planes. The frame rear section has a transversely mounted rear axle adjacent the rear portion on which a pair of propelling wheels are mounted and a transversely mounted intermediate axle adjacent the front portion of the frame rear section on which a pair of intermediate propelling wheels are mounted. The frame front section has a transversely mounted front axle on which a pair of front propelling wheels are mounted. Separate propelling motors are mounted adjacent each of the propelling wheels and are drivingly connected to the adjacent propelling wheel. All of the propelling wheels are steerable and the drive motors are movable therewith. A body member is supported on the frame rear section and a boom member is supported on the frame front section.
