  • Patent number: 4778162
Abstract: A device for connecting a helical compression spring to the trailing arm in the wheel suspension of a motor vehicle. Bending stresses on the spring are prevented by supporting it on the trailing arm through a support that is mounted in a bushing rigidly attached to the trailing arm in such a way that the support moves freely around predetermined angle to the normal to the plane of support on the trailing arm. In one embodiment that is especially simple in design the wire at the end of the spring that faces the trailing arm spirals in as far as the center line of the spring, the end of the spring wire is bent at a right angle and extended axially out of the spring, and the end of the spring wire functions in itself as a support, the face of the end of the wire resting on a ball positioned in a bushing.

  • Patent number: 4744549
Abstract: A coil spring for a motor vehicle wheel suspension system having two spring segments spaced apart in the axial direction along the central spring axis and a reinforced connecting piece extending parallel to the central spring axis for connecting the two spring segments. The two spring segments and the connecting piece form a unitary structure.

  • Patent number: 4120489
Abstract: A double truncoconical spring of wire having a circular cross section, said spring having a coil diameter which is greatest in the middle portion of the spring and in which, under maximum load the coils of one half of the spring lie inside one another in the form of a spiral, and which has a linear or partially linear and partially progressive characteristic, said double truncoconical spring constructed of wire having a diameter which is greatest in the middle portion of the spring which diameter diminishes towards both ends of the spring, diminishing in a ratio such that the condition of maximum stress is fulfilled for each coil and in the case of a partially progressive characteristic, as loading upon the spring increases, the inner coils position themselves against the bearing surfaces at the ends of the spring.

  • Patent number: 4077619
Abstract: A helical compression spring having a partially progressive characteristic which has a cylindrical portion of constant wire thickness coterminously and integrally joined to a truncoconical portion whose coil of greatest coil diameter is disposed away from the cylindrical portion. The truncoconical portion has inconstant wire thickness with the coils of largest wire diameter being positioned between coils of smaller wire diameter.
