Abstract: System(s), method(s), and device(s) that facilitate managing resources associated with communication devices are presented. A mobile device(s) at cell edge identifies its in-use resource blocks (RBs) to a neighbor base station, or in-use RBs of a neighbor base station to the serving base station. In the former instance, the neighbor base station sorts RBs in ascending order based on signal strengths respectively associated with the RBs and mobile devices; in the latter instance, the serving base station ranks RBs in ascending order based on signal strengths respectively associated with the RBs and neighbor base stations. RBs having weakest signal strength are reused first for mobile devices at cell edge. Base station establishes a direct wireless radio path with another base station facilitated by employing a sequence of subframes where all subframes but a specified subframe are blanked, and data is transmitted between base stations during the specified subframe.

  • Publication number: 20100150128
Abstract: Devices and methods are disclosed which supplement a duplex frequency by providing one or more simplex frequencies and distributing a data load among them. Variations of the disclosed system include a server containing a scheduler in communication with a communications device. The server initially communicates with the communications device using a duplex channel. The scheduler determines when it is no longer optimal to use the single duplex channel, and distributes data among the duplex channel and one or more simplex channels. Before sending this data through multiple channels, the server must first send a schedule to the communications device, so the communications device knows which bits of data are coming through which channels at which times. The scheduler compiles this schedule and sends it to the communications device through the duplex channel. A descheduler within the communications device receives the schedule and alerts the communications device to start receiving data on other simplex channels.

  • Publication number: 20100134423
Abstract: Systems and methodologies for adapting input/output operation of an electronic device for left-handed and/or right-handed scenarios are provided herein. As described herein, sensors (e.g., capacitive, resistive, touch-sensitive, etc.) are applied to respective outer edges of a device to determine whether a device is in a user's left hand and/or right hand. Based on this determination, respective points along the sensors can be mapped to soft keys to automatically optimize input for left-handed and/or right-handed operation. As further described herein, points of contact with an input device such as a touch-screen can be corrected based on whether a user's left hand and/or right hand is holding an associated electronic device. For example, upon identifying contact between a touch-screen and a thumb of a hand being used to hold an associated device, the point of contact can be shifted to compensate for the angle of the thumb with respect to the touch-screen.

  • Publication number: 20100138565
Abstract: Systems and methodologies for automatic quality of service (QoS) management for data network devices are provided herein. As described herein, active versus inactive interaction between a user and a network device can be identified, based on which an appropriate QoS level can be applied to the device. For example, a level of input/output (I/O) activity associated with a device can be inferred by monitoring mouse movement, touch input activity, display output activity, voice I/O activity, or the like, and a QoS configuration can be automatically selected for the device based on the inferred level of activity. As further provided herein, I/O activity monitoring and a corresponding QoS assignment can be related to an activity timer, such that a high-priority QoS setting is applied to devices for which I/O activity is identified within the timer and a low-priority QoS setting is applied to devices for which such activity is not identified.

  • Publication number: 20100134424
Abstract: Systems and methodologies for controlling an electronic device are provided herein. As described herein, sensors (e.g. capacitive, resistive, touch-sensitive, etc.) are applied to respective outer edges of a device to detect presence and/or motion of a user's fingers and/or hands, thereby leveraging the outer edges of the device as an input mechanism. For example, points along an edge sensor can be mapped to soft keys to enable inferred hand and finger locations to be utilized for device input. Further, characteristics of a user's hands and/or fingers can be discovered over time and/or learned based on an initial calibration procedure, and these characteristics can subsequently be utilized to adjust sensor operation for optimal accuracy and user comfort. In addition, selected device features can be secured by utilizing an identifying set of sensor contacts from a user as a passcode that requires duplication before the selected device features can be accessed.

  • Publication number: 20100138680
Abstract: Systems and methodologies for adapting input/output operation of an electronic device for in-hand and out-of-hand scenarios are provided herein. As described herein, sensors (e.g., capacitive, resistive, touch-sensitive, etc.) are applied to respective outer edges of a device to determine whether the device is in a user's hand. Subsequently, the determination can be utilized to automatically select an input/output mode for the device and to selectively activate one or more input/output mechanisms associated with the device. For example, if a device is determined to be in-hand, mechanical input/output mechanisms, such as a touch-screen or keypad, can be enabled. Alternatively, if a device is determined to be out-of-hand, a touch-screen at the device can be disabled to conserve power and alternative input/output mode, such as voice input/output, can be enabled. As further described herein, in- and/or out-of-hand behavior for a device can be specified on a per-application or per-application type basis.

  • Publication number: 20100099393
Abstract: System(s) and method(s) are provided to manage utilization of radio network technology and display thereof when multiple services and radio network technologies are available to a multi-technology mobile device. Management relies at least in part on a subscriber profile that comprises a network selection profile constructed through market policy, subscriber policy, and application policy for radio technology utilization. Network preference(s) profile is generated on per subscriber, or per subscriber type, basis and is conveyed to a subscriber station over the air. Initial subscriber profile can be delivered at a time of provisioning a multi-technology mobile device, and updated based at least upon subscriber demand, a schedule established by a network operator or service provider, or an event related to coverage area relocation or contracted services.

  • Publication number: 20090298470
Abstract: System(s) and method(s) are provided for a femtocell account management service and access thereto. The account service management can be accessed through a broadband network and comprises two operational layers deployed within respective demarcation zones. A first layer includes a web tier that provides landing webpage and a legacy account manager that enables account management for mobility subscribers. A second layer includes an application layer associated with femtocell service, an application layer for legacy accounts, and a middleware component that provides functional connectivity application layers and backend service component. Account management service allows secure login to femtocell account and redirection amongst femtocell and legacy service components, and enables manipulation of access list(s) that regulate access to femto service.

  • Publication number: 20090196251
Abstract: Efficient utilization and management of integrated mobile base station carrier trees is provided herein. Such trees provide an organizational structure for allocating calls in a code division, tone division, time division and/or like mobile infrastructure. Calls can be allocated to portions of the carrier tree as a function of characteristic(s) associated with the call. Accordingly, like calls are grouped within the carrier tree with like calls. In addition, portions of the carrier tree can be re-allocated to different types of traffic to meet fluctuations in traffic demand. Further, calls can be re-packed from existing segments of the carrier tree to other segments to maintain calls having common characteristics in contiguous groups, and to maintain idle segments another contiguous group(s). Accordingly, the wireless carrier tree can be packed and managed more efficiently, providing greater throughput and reduced contention for resources.

  • Publication number: 20090191884
Abstract: Providing for efficient utilization of channel element device ladder (CEDL) resources is described herein. By way of example, a received data request can be packed in a first portion of the CEDL and a received voice request can be packed in a second portion of the CEDL. Subsequent requests can be assigned to contiguous channel elements (CEs) of the CEDL within the first or second portion, as suitable. In addition, non-assigned CEs can be maintained in a third portion of the CEDL, by packing requests initially from opposite ends of the first and second portion, and be re-packing dropped traffic within the CEDL. Accordingly, the subject disclosure provides for efficient utilization of CEDL resources both for incoming voice traffic requests and incoming data traffic requests, by packing and maintaining data, voice and un-assigned CEs in contiguous portions of the CEDL.
