  • Patent number: 4983426
Abstract: A method for improving the quality of a mastic coating system by using a selected tiecoat composition. The tiecoat is applied to a substrate in order to correct substrate problems which would cause premature failure of a mastic coating applied directly to the substrate. The mastic coating is then applied to the tiecoat to yield a superior mastic coating system.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 24, 1988
Date of Patent: January 8, 1991
    Assignee: Rohm and Haas Company
    Inventor: Arthur D. Jordan, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4571415
Abstract: This invention relates to water-based coatings and caulking compositions for exterior surfaces which upon application quickly develop resistance to being washed out by inadvertant precipitation. These compositions comprise an aqueous dispersion of water-insoluble latex polymer prepared by emulsion polymerization, inorganic pigment dispersed with anionic polymer, and water-soluble salt of a multivalent complex ion having labile, volatile ligands such as zinc ammonium complex ion.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 1, 1984
Date of Patent: February 18, 1986
    Assignee: Rohm and Haas Company
    Inventor: Arthur D. Jordan, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4277387
Abstract: Disclosed is a plasticizing composition and caulks or sealants containing the same. The plasticizer is a combination of (1) a water insoluble adduct of ethylene oxide or propylene oxide and an alkyl phenol and (2) an ester type of plasticizer. Aqueous latex caulks are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4054717
Abstract: Mineral coating compositions for coating papers, the binder of which comprises a negatively-charged latex or an aqueous dispersion of an emulsion polymer, with or without an amylaceous binder, as the major portion thereof, and a relatively small amount of a water-soluble addition polymer having polymerized therein from 20% to 100%, preferably at least 40%, by weight of a monoethylenically unsaturated monomer having a primary, secondary, or tertiary amine group, such as an aminoalkyl acrylate, methacrylate, vinyl ether or vinyl sulfide, an N-aminoalkyl(meth)acrylamide, an N-acryloxyalkyl-oxazolidine or an N-acryloxyalkyl-tetrahydro-1,3-oxazine.
