Patent number: 11623661Abstract: Techniques for controlling a vehicle based on height data and/or classification data being determined utilizing multi-channel image data are discussed herein. The vehicle can capture lidar data as it traverses an environment. The lidar data can be associated with a voxel space as three-dimensional data. Semantic information can be determined and associated with the lidar data and/or the three-dimensional voxel space. A multi-channel input image can be determined based on the three-dimensional voxel space and input into a machine learned (ML) model. The ML model can output data to determine height data and/or classification data associated with a ground surface of the environment. The height data and/or classification data can be utilized to determine a mesh associated with the ground surface. The mesh can be used to control the vehicle and/or determine additional objects proximate the vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2020Date of Patent: April 11, 2023Assignee: Zoox, Inc.Inventors: Arthur Daniel Costea, Robert Evan Mahieu, David Pfeiffer, Zeng Wang

Patent number: 8862100Abstract: In a network having a plurality of subscriber devices, a plurality of base stations and a server, a system and method of modifying policy settings are provided. Each base station transmits wirelessly across a geographic region. A subscriber device, capable of roaming between regions, establishes a wireless link with the server via the base stations. The network contains a communication policy determining from which other communication devices a subscriber device can receive voice calls. The server updates the policy based on requests from subscriber devices. The determination of whether to update the policy can be based on a record of rejections respective to the caller requested to be blocked. Alternatively, the policy can be updated according to a trust policy maintained on the server respective to the subscriber device making the request; the trust policy represents the procedure to follow when a request is received from that subscriber device.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2012Date of Patent: October 14, 2014Assignee: BlackBerry LimitedInventors: Ian Michael Patterson, Sean Arthur Daniel Carlos Goggin, Marc Plumb

Patent number: 8755301Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method of modifying policy settings in a network having a plurality of subscriber devices. An embodiment includes a plurality of base stations, each capable of wirelessly transmitting across a geographic region. A cell-phone, capable of roaming between regions is operable to establish a wireless link with the base stations. The network contains a communication policy determining from which other communication devices a subscriber device can receive voice calls. A copy of this policy is stored on each subscriber device as a database and periodically updated as the devices make contact with the base stations or other subscriber devices. When receiving a voice call, the device first determines who the originator of the call is and then determines whether it is allowed to receive the call from that originator according to its policy database. The policy database can be updated either by subscriber devices or by base stations.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 2013Date of Patent: June 17, 2014Assignee: BlackBerry LimitedInventors: Ian Michael Pattersson, Sean Arthur Daniel Carlos Goggin, Marc Plumb

Patent number: 7886667Abstract: A warhead includes a body, a patterned liner made of plastic, and an explosive charge disposed within the liner. The liner pattern is formed of gaps and liner elements. The explosive charge includes a first set of sections that are disposed adjacent to the liner gaps and a second set of sections that are disposed adjacent to the liner elements. Upon detonation of the explosive charge and because of the temporal delay in transmitting the detonation energy between these two sets of sections, the warhead body is caused to shear and break into fragments with controlled size. The use of plastic as the liner material also provides a welcome safety feature for this warhead. In the event of unwanted heat ignition, the plastic (which is also low melt temperature material), would melt to seal the explosive and would also flow. Because of the plastic, neither sudden pressure nor heat/ignition inside the round, would therefore be as catastrophic.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 2008Date of Patent: February 15, 2011Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the ArmyInventors: Ernest Baker, Chuck Chin, Arthur Daniels, Stanley DeFisher, Vladimir Gold, Jack Pincay, Irene Wu

Publication number: 20090152177Abstract: An optical paper sorting system uses diffuse reflectance to identify a sheet of paper, conveyed on a conveyor, as either white or groundwood grade, or white, colour, or mixed grade. In sorting, paper that does not meet a specified minimum requirement, for example, having less than a maximum amount of lignin, is mechanically diverted from a stream of input paper waste to a rejection bin. Otherwise, the paper is directed to a collection bin. The optical paper sorting method may be used to sort paper into different grades that is then recombined to produce a predetermined grade of sorted waste paper.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 11, 2007Publication date: June 18, 2009Applicant: Hanaar Corp.Inventors: Sheldon Greenspan, Jose Sequeira, James Arthur Daniels
