  • Patent number: 4424667
Abstract: Apparatus for improving the operating efficiency of a gas turbine engine includes a heat pump and a pair of heat exchangers for use in conjunction with the engine. The first heat exchanger is disposed in the flow path of the engine upstream of its compressor section, while the second heat exchanger is disposed in the engine flow path downstream of the compressor section and upstream of the combustor section of the engine. A portion of the work output of the engine is used to operate the heat pump so as to cause cooling of air in the flow path at the first heat exchanger and heating of air in the flow path at the second heat exchanger.
