  • Publication number: 20190070342
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for a free-standing biodegradable patch suitable for medical applications, especially nasal applications are provided, wherein the patch comprises a free-standing film containing at least one therapeutic agent selected from corticosteroids, antihistamines, monoclonal antibodies, leukotriene receptor antagonists, anti-inflammatory cytokines, vasoconstrictive agents, and any combination thereof. The patch may take a non-adherent form during delivery to a target location within a vessel or tissue, and thereafter may be activated to adhere to vessel wall or tissue, and release the therapeutic content in a sustained fashion. The patch may be micronized and administered in a powdered form.

  • Patent number: 8187327
Abstract: An apparatus includes a scaffold configured to be disposed in a bone. The scaffold is configured to move from a first configuration to a second configuration. The scaffold in the second configuration is expanded from the first configuration. A selectively-expandable actuator is configured to be removably disposed within the scaffold. The selectively-expandable actuator is configured to move at least a portion of the scaffold to the second configuration when the selectively-expandable actuator is moved to an expanded configuration. A shape of the selectively-expandable actuator is substantially the same as a shape of the scaffold when the selectively-expandable actuator and the scaffold are in the second configuration. The selectively-expandable actuator configured to be removed from the scaffold when in a collapsed configuration. The scaffold is configured to remain substantially in the second configuration after the scaffold has been expanded by the actuator.

  • Patent number: 7399306
Abstract: Apparatus and methods provide a tool comprising a trocar and a cannula in which the trocar engages the cannula to form a composite instrument. The trocar includes a handle and a lumen through the trocar and the trocar handle that accommodates passage of a functional instrument, such as a stylet, guidewire, or spinal needle assembly. The cannula includes a handle and is sized and configured to accommodate passage of the trocar. The trocar handle mates with the cannula handle to form a composite handle when the trocar is engaged with the cannula.

  • Patent number: 6575919
Abstract: A composite instrument is provided comprising a first functional instrument and a second functional instrument when the first functional instrument is coupled with the second functional instrument. A composite handle for the composite instrument is provided comprising a first handle and a second handle when the first handle is coupled with the second handle. The handle makes possible the reliable transmission, with increased mechanical advantage, of both torsional and longitudinal loads by the physician to the composite instrument, while resisting relative rotation between the first and second instruments.

  • Patent number: 5913574
Abstract: A cutting module and a cutting element which fits within the cutting module are used to remove polymer, e.g. insulation or a conductive polymer composition, from the first and second electrodes of the cable at the end of the cable in order to make electrical connection from the electrodes to the first and second contact members of an electrical plug. Present within the cutting module are first and second electrode-contact sections positioned on the concave arcuate inner surface of the wall of a cavity in the cutting module. The electrode-contact sections can be electrically connected to the first and second contact members. The cutting element comprises a cutting wedge which has (a) a convex arcuate outer surface which complements the inner surface of the wall of the cutting module, and (b) piercing means suitable for penetrating the polymer.
