  • Patent number: 6783044
Abstract: A fastener driving tool includes a housing assembly with a nosepiece assembly defining a drive track. A safety trip assembly includes a trigger enabling portion and a workpiece engaging portion and is movable between an extended disabling position and a retracted enabling position. The safety trip assembly is biased toward the extended position and is moved toward the retracted position by engagement between a workpiece and the workpiece engaging member. The workpiece engaging portion is movable to permit adjustment of a length of the safety trip assembly. The workpiece engaging portion may be removed from the safety trip assembly and exchanged with another different workpiece engaging portion. A workpiece engaging portion usable with the fastener driving tool includes a positioning mechanism having an opening locating structure and a guiding structure.

  • Patent number: 6209770
Abstract: A fastener driving tool includes a housing assembly with a nosepiece assembly defining a drive track. A driving mechanism is housed within the housing assembly to drive a fastener through the drive track and into a workpiece in response to a trigger. The tool includes a safety trip assembly which includes a trigger enabling portion and a workpiece engaging portion and is movable between an extended disabling position and a retracted enabling position. The safety trip assembly is biased toward the extended position and is moved toward the retracted position by engagement between the workpiece and the workpiece engaging member. The workpiece engaging portion is movable to permit adjustment of a length of the safety trip assembly. The safety trip assembly includes a coupling mechanism including a fixed locking structure formed on an exterior portion of the workpiece engaging portion and a manually operable locking mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5480088
Abstract: A fastener driving tool is provided including a portable housing defining a fastener drive track, a fastener driving element carried by the housing for movement within the drive track through successive cycles of operation, each of which includes a fastener driving stroke and a return stoke, and a drive piston operatively connected with the fastener driving element for movement therewith. The tool also has a magazine assembly carried by the housing for receiving a supply of fasteners and feeding successive fasteners into the drive track in a position to be driven into a work piece during successive fastener driving strokes of the fastener driving element, an actuating structure carried by the housing and being constructed and arranged to move from a normal, inoperative position into an operative position to initiate the movement of the drive piston and the fastener driving element through a fastener driving stroke, and an overdrive signaling structure carried by the housing.

  • Patent number: 5297713
Abstract: A housing structure including a manually engageable handle for enabling a user to portably operate the device and a nosepiece portion disposed forwardly thereof. Extending rearwardly from the nosepiece portion is a magazine assembly which together with the nosepiece define a drive track therebetween. A fastener driving element is slidably mounted in the drive track. Power operated means for moving the fastener driving element are provided within the drive track moving the fastener driving element through successive operative cycles each including a drive stroke in one direction and a return stroke in an opposite direction. The magazine assembly includes a fastener stick receiving feed track and means for biasing a stick of fasteners in the feed track to move a leading fastener of the stick into the drive track to be driven therefrom during the drive stroke of the fastener driving element into a workpiece.

  • Patent number: 5191861
Abstract: An internal combustion actuated fastener driving device in which a simple container supply of fuel under pressure carried in a handle portion of the portable housing assembly feeds to a supply chamber controlled by an actuating valve operable in response to a manual acuating procedure to be spring moved into an operative position. The movement of the actuating valve into its operative position communicates a previously formed charge of gaseous fuel under pressure in a separate charge chamber with a series of nozzles so as to discharge in jet stream formations which aspirate fresh air through inlets to mix therewith in a mixing chamber for passage into a combustion chamber in open condition controlled by a main valve. The main valve moves under spring bias into a closed position in response to the depletion of gaseous fuel pressure within the charge chamber in timed relation with the crowding of the spent gases from the combustion chamber by the new combustible mixture.
