  • Patent number: 5427031
Abstract: A detonator for detonation of explosives which provides protection of a primer charge from sympathetic initiation and provides efficient detonation of a base charge. The detonator is comprised of, a hollow detonator shell having first and second ends, said detonator shell has inserted therein a delay element and a primer capsule. Said delay element is positioned within the first end of the shell and has a core running therethrough. The primer capsule has a protective frustrum top having an opening centrally located therein and a tubular bottom. The primer capsule is inserted into the second end of the shell such that the core of the delay element is in contact with the opening in the frustrum top. The primer capsule top contains a primer charge and the bottom contains primer charge and a small amount of base charge material. The top is constructed with heavy walls such that the primer charge is protected.

  • Patent number: 4350097
Abstract: A nonelectric detonator device is provided for initiation by a detonator cord, the nonelectric detonator device being securable to a cartridge explosive, an explosive primer charge or one or more outgoing detonator cords, for example, for initiation thereof by the nonelectric detonator device. The detonator device includes an alignment member for securing a detonator cord in initiating relationship thereto. A second alignment member is provided for aligning outgoing detonating cords for initiation by the nonelectric detonator device.

  • Patent number: 4295424
Abstract: A container for containing a thermosetting explosive charge and delay detonator element is provided. The lower portion of the container has an open bottom and contains the cast explosive charge. A projection and recess are located in that portion of the container which contains the cast explosive charge for retaining the explosive charge within the container and for preventing movement of the charge relative to the container once the charge has solidified. A tubular conduit is longitudinally disposed on the exterior of the container and dimensioned to receive a detonating cord. The container includes an integral alignment structure and housing for the insertion of a delay detonator unit having an initiating element and a delay detonator element adapted so that the initiating element can be positioned adjacent the tubular conduit with the delay detonator element positioned adjacent the cast explosive charge.

  • Patent number: 4165691
Abstract: A nonelectric delay detonator for use with an explosive packaged booster or explosive cartridge wherein the detonator includes a detonation sensor which senses the detonation of a detonating cord, and a signal carrier consisting of an empty plastic or rubber tube having a diameter of 1.0-4.0 millimeters which transmits the detonation signal from the sensor to a non-electric delay blasting cap. One end of the tube signal carrier is inserted into the sensor while the opposite end of the tube is inserted into the cap whereby the tube is in open and direct communication with the sensor and cap.

  • Patent number: 4060034
Abstract: In a nonelectrically initiated delay booster assembly which includes a booster shell containing an explosive material, a cap well extending through one end of the booster shell into the explosive material, a detonating cord tunnel surrounded by a shock absorbing material affixed to the side of the booster shell or enclosed inside the booster shell and a detonating cord laced through the tunnel, there is provided a delay insert which consists of a sensor, signal carrier and nonelectric cap assembly for transmitting detonation from the detonating cord to the explosive material in the cap which cap is inserted in the cap well of the booster. The signal carrier extends from a point within the cap to a point externally of the booster shell and adjacent the detonating cord extending through the cord tunnel, and the sensor initiating member is affixed to that end of the signal line lying externally of the booster shell in such a manner that it lies in initiating relationship with the detonating cord.

  • Patent number: 4060033
Abstract: A nonelectrically initiated delay booster assembly includes a booster shell containing an explosive material, a cap well extending through one end of the booster shell into the explosive material, a nonelectric delay cap in the well and a detonating cord tunnel surrounded by a shock absorbing material affixed to the side of the booster shell or enclosed inside the booster shell. A signal carrier extends from a point within the cap to a point adjacent a detonating cord extending through the detonating cord tunnel, and a sensor member is affixed to that end of the signal carrier that is external to the booster shell in such a manner that it is in initiating relationship with the detonating cord extending through the detonating cord tunnel. A plurality of these boosters can be affixed to a single detonating cord downline when conducting multi-deck blasting operations.
