  • Publication number: 20160025429
Abstract: The disclosure provides a thermal management apparatus. The apparatus includes a housing that defines a first air flow channel and a second air flow channel and an electroactive polymer actuator located within the housing, the electroactive polymer actuator configured to move in response to an activation signal. The electroactive polymer actuator defines a first chamber in fluid communication with the first air flow channel and defines a second chamber in fluid communication with the second air flow channel, the first and second chambers are fluidically isolated from each other. The electroactive polymer actuator is configured to oscillate when excited by the activation signal and eject pulses of air through the first and second air flow channels. An apparatus that includes two electroactive polymer actuators as well as method of generating air flow for thermal management also is disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20150319514
Abstract: An apparatus (200) is disclosed. The apparatus includes a rigid frame (206), an electroactive polymer film (204) defining an aperture (202) where the electroactive polymer film has a first and second side. A first electrode is located on the first side of the electroactive polymer film and a second electrode is located on the second side of the electroactive polymer film. The aperture is configured to deform upon the application of an electric voltage potential to the first and second electrodes. A method of making an electroactive device is also disclosed. The method includes positioning an electroactive polymer film within a rigid frame and forming an aperture within the electroactive polymer film.

  • Patent number: 6356734
Abstract: An image forming apparatus for forming images on a media substrate having an electrophotographic image forming apparatus including apparatus for selectively applying a toner release agent. The apparatus includes a supply roller for applying a toner release agent onto a fuser roller or other roller. In operation, the supply roller is selectively moveable by a thermally-activated actuator such as a pair of shape memory alloy (SMA) members from a first position where the supply roller engages the fuser roller and communicates the toner release agent thereto, and a second or disengaged position where supply roller does not contact the fuser roller. A method for applying a toner release agent in an electrophotographic imaging forming apparatus, and a method for printing toner images on a substrate such that all of the toner images adhere to the substrate are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6168914
Abstract: The invention provides a system and method for synthesizing chemicals onto supports in a parallel manner to produce a combinatorial collection of compounds. The system includes a plurality of middle plates, with each middle plate defining a plurality of reaction zones arranged in a two dimensional array. The reaction zones are adapted to receive a solid support, such as a sheet of membrane, and the middle plates are stackable on each other to form a three dimensional array of reaction zones. The system also includes a pair of end plates, where the middle plates are located between the end plates, and where the end plates include an array of fluid guides corresponding to the array of reaction zones, to allow for selective routing of reagents through the reaction zones.
